[THE ACTIVITY OF THE Peronema canescens LEAVES ETHANOL EXTRACTS FRACTION AGAINST Plasmodium berghei GROWTH RATE ] The purpose of this research was to identify the secondary metabolites of compounds contained in the fraction of ethanol from leaves of Peronema canescens (Sungkai) as well as to measure the level of activity of ethanol fraction antiplasmodium leaf P.canescens against the male mice (Mus musculus) infected with Plasmodium berghei which is parasitic hemaprotozoa that can cause malaria in rodents such as rats and mice as well as molecular similarity with the parasite Plasmodium. falciparum that causes malaria in humans. The methods used in this study i.e. in maceration extraction methods to attract secondary metabolite compounds from the leaves of P.canescens followed by oil bath method to get a fraction of ethanol with the purpose of separating polar compounds from a mixture of secondary metabolite compounds contained in the sample leaf P.canescens. Assay activity against antiplasmodium males mice infected with P. berghei is done by dividing into the 5 mice group treatment i.e. Group K (-) that are quads, group K (+) given kloroquin anti malarial drug, and P1, P2, P3, which each group was given a dose of ethanol fraction from leaves of P. canescens with each dose of 0.028 (P1); 0.056 (P2), and 0.0084 g/kgBB (P3).The results of research conducted showed that administering ethanol fraction from leaves of P. canescens antimalarial activity can increase with very real on the best dose of kg BB 0084 g i.e. with the percentage inhibition of 54.06%.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of ethanolic extract of malacca leaves (Phyllantus emblica) on histopathology of mice (Mus musculus) spleen infected with Plasmodium berghei (P. berghei). This study used 15 male Balb/c strain mice aged 2 months, allotted into 5 treatment groups. The mice in group 1 (P0) were infected with P. berghei without administration of Malacca leaves extract, while the mice in group 2 (P1) were infected with P. berghei and treated with 5 mg/kg BW of chloroquine. The mice in group 3 (P2), 4 (P3), and 5 (P4) were infected with P. berghei and treated with Malacca leaves extract at doses of 100, 300, and 600 mg/kg BW, respectively. At day 7 th , all mice were sacrificed, then the spleen were collected for histopathological examination. The observation was carried out on the hemosiderin accumulation, lymphocyte depletion, hemorrhage, and megakaryocyte cells. Data were analyzed using one way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that the amount of hemosiderin, lymphocyte depletion, and hemorrhage decreased in mice given Malacca leaves extract compared to those in the negative control. In conclusion, the administration of ethanolic extract of malacca leaves reduce the damage of mice spleen due to P. berghei infection

Background and Aim: Although existing research confirms the antiparasitic effect of the Malacca plant against Plasmodium, its effect on the liver, one of the target organs of Plasmodium has not been investigated. Therefore, this study was conducted to explore the potential of the ethanolic extract of Malacca (Phyllanthus emblica) leaves in preventing liver damage in mice (Mus musculus) caused by Plasmodium berghei infection. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted using the livers of 18 mice fixed in 10% neutral-buffered formalin. A completely randomized design with a unidirectional pattern comprising six treatments was used in this study, with each treatment consisting of three replications. Treatment 0 was the negative control group infected with P. berghei, treatment 1 was the positive control group infected with P. berghei followed by chloroquine administration at a dose of 5 mg/kg BW, and treatments 2, 3, 4, and 5 were groups infected with P. berghei and administered Malacca leaf ethanolic extracts at doses of 100, 300, 600, and 1200 mg/kg BW, respectively. The extracts were administered orally using a gastric tube for 4 consecutive days. Mice were sacrificed on the 7th day and livers were collected for histopathological examination. Results: Histopathological examination of the livers of mice infected with P. berghei demonstrated the presence of hemosiderin, hydropic degeneration, fat degeneration, necrosis, and megalocytosis. However, all these histopathological changes were reduced in the livers of P. berghei-infected mice treated with various doses of Malacca leaf ethanolic extract. The differences between the treatments were found be statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: Ethanolic extract of Malacca leaves has the potential to protect against liver damage in mice infected with P. berghei. The dose of 600 mg/kg BW was found to be the most effective compared with the doses of 100, 300, and 1200 mg/kg BW.
