ABSTRACT. An experiment was carried out with female broilers, aiming to evaluate the effect of using probiotics and symbiotics on growth performance and yield of carcasses and of the main commercial cuts and edible viscera. A total of 720 one-day-old Cobb chicks, distributed in a completely randomized experimental design with four treatments and six replicates of 30 birds each at a stocking density of 10 birds per square meter (m 2 ). At 42 days old two broilers of each experimental unit were sacrificed to evaluate the carcass yield and its parts. The carcass yield was not affected by the inclusion of probiotics and symbiotics in the diet being equivalent to the antibiotic group. No significant difference was observed among the treatments, even in the controls that did not receive any additive factor. All the performance parameters were similar for the four treatments, with the exception of weight gain, that was significantly lower in probiotic treatment. It was concluded that these additives are important alternative to replace antibiotics as growth enhancers, which have already been banned in many countries.Keywords: poultry farming; additions; performance.Desempenho e rendimento de carcaças de frangos de corte fêmeas alimentados com dietas contendo probióticos e simbióticos como alternativa aos melhoradores de crescimento RESUMO. Foi realizado um experimento com frangos de corte fêmeas, objetivando-se avaliar o efeito da utilização de probióticos e simbióticos sobre o desempenho e rendimento de carcaça e dos principais cortes comerciais e vísceras comestíveis destes animais. Foram utilizados 720 pintos de um dia de idade da linhagem Cobb, distribuídos em um delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, com quatro tratamentos e seis repetições de 30 aves cada em uma densidade de 10 aves/metro quadrado (m 2 ). Aos 42 dias de idade foram abatidos dois frangos por repetição, para a avaliação do rendimento de carcaça e suas partes. A inclusão de probióticos e simbióticos na ração não proporcionou diferença significativa no rendimento de carcaça e suas partes sendo equivalente ao tratamento com antibióticos. Não foi observada diferença significativa entre os tratamentos, inclusive nos controles que não receberam qualquer fator aditivo. Da mesma forma os demais parâmetros de desempenho foram equivalentes para os quatro tratamentos, com exceção do ganho de peso, que foi significativamente menor no tratamento probiótico. Conclui-se que esses aditivos são uma alternativa importante na substituição dos antibióticos como melhoradores de crescimento, os quais já foram banidos em muitos países.

RESUMOABSTRACT -Three experiments were carried out to evaluate the effect of probiotic on performance and intestinal health of chicks. It was used in the first experiment 300 fertilized eggs, in which water (placebo) or probiotic solution containing 10 mg of probiotic (Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus plantarum, 10 6 ufc/g) were inoculated. In Experiment 2, it was evaluated the efficiency of probiotic (Bacillus subtilis) supply in the diet for chicks challenged with Salmonella Enteritidis on the first day of age. In the Experiment 3, the probiotic was inoculated in fertilized eggs and the chicks were challenged with Salmonella Enteritidis at hatching. A random block design was used in the three experiments. Performance, digestibility of the feeding nutrients, and the presence of Salmonella Enteritidis in the digestive organs of the chicks were evaluated. In the first experiment, the probiotic provided a reduction of digestibility of the ether extract of the feeding. Birds from probiotic inoculated eggs showed the worst food conversion. In the Experiment 2, the probiotic provided caecum reduction of Salmonella Enteritidis from the second week of life. On the third experiment, there was an interaction among probiotic and challenge for the body weight at 21 days of life, and the chicks challenged to hatch with Salmonella Enteritidis showed best results in the groups that received probiotics, through egg, at 16 days of incubation. The probiotic also promoted the elimination of Salmonella Enteritidis in the crop and in the caecum of the chicks at 7 and 21 days of age. Supplementation of probiotics in embryos of broilers favors the performance of the birds and avoids colonization in the crop and in the caecum of broilers challenged with Salmonella Enteritidis after hatching.

-The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of Bacillus cereus var. toyoi and Saccharomyces boulardii as probiotics to improve Rhamdia quelen culture. Six hundred larvaes (0.16±0.07 g) were divided in three replicate tanks (25-L recirculation, 20 o C, photoperiod of 12 h light/12 h darkness) per treatment and were randomly assigned to the following treatments: Bacillus cereus var. toyoi; Saccharomyces boulardii; B. toyoi and S. boulardii; and control (without probiotic addition) for a period of 30 days. The fish were fed five times daily (56% crude protein -Supra alevino inicial ® ) and the probiotics were applied in water once a day. The doses of probiotics were ≅ 5 × 10 8 and ≅ 2 × 10 9 CFU (colony forming unit)/mL for B. cereus var. toyoi and S. boulardii, respectively. Both probiotics have an inhibitory effect in vitro against Vibrio carchariae and are able to grow in media prepared with fishery water; however, no effect was observed on growth parameters when they were administered to Rhamdia quelen larvae.
