Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of broiler breeder age and incubator type on hatching parameters, hatch window, embryo diagnosis results, and hatchling physical quality. The treatments consisted of a combination of three broiler breeder ages (29, 35 and 59 weeks of age) and two incubator types (single stage, SS; or and multiple stage, MS). A completely randomized design in a 3x2 factorial arrangement was applied. In Experiment I, 1,896 eggs were used and 360 eggs in Experiment II. There was an interaction between breeder age and incubator type only for hatchling physical quality score. Independently of incubator type, hatchability rate, late embryo mortality, and egg contamination were higher in the eggs laid by older breeders (59-wk-old). Early mortality (0-4 days) was higher in the embryos from young breeders (29-wk-old). A shorter hatch window birth was obtained in the SS incubator, resulting in higher hatchling body weight relative to egg weight, and better hatchling physical quality score. Both types of incubators provide good conditions for embryo development; however, the physical quality of chicks derived from eggs from intermediate-aged breeders (35-wk-old) is better when eggs are incubated in SS incubators.
Palavras-chave: frango de corte, linhagem, desempenho, rendimento de carcaça Performance and Carcass Yield of Four Broiler Strains Raised in Goiás, BrazilABSTRACT -An experiment was carried out in the Abatedouro São Salvador, Goiás, Brazil, in order to evaluate the performance and carcass characteristics of four different broiler strains. The performance and carcass characteristics of Ross, Cobb, Avian Farms and Arbor Acres chickens were measured until 41, 44 and 48 days of age and the carcass parameters were measured at 41 and 44 days of age. Broilers were allotted in an randomized block design in a 4x2 factorial scheme (strains x sex) with four replicates of 63 birds each. It was observed better productive parameters and heavier body and carcass weight for male broilers than females, although no effect of sex occurred in carcass yield. Ross birds showed heavier body weight and higher cumulative weight gain at 44 days of age, but this was not observed in the other phases tested. There were no differences in commercial parts yield and carcass characteristics between the different strains.Key Words: broiler, strain, performance, carcass yield IntroduçãoA evolução e a competitividade da indústria avícola brasileira têm impulsionado a constante busca da melhoria do material genético das linhagens.
Palavras-chave: matriz leve, armazenamento, incubação, ovos incubáveis ABSTRACT The effects of ages of light breeder hens and storage period of hatchabe eggs on the incubation efficiency were evaluated. A total of 7,224Dekalb hatching eggs were assigned according to the sample random design, and the hatching tray height was considered a co-variable. The treatments were defined according to the breeder hens ages (32 and 57-week-old) and the period of storage of eggs (three, five, and seven days), with 14 replications. The age of the hen affected the weight of the eggs. There was loss of weight of the eggs of 32 and 57-week-old breeder hens during storage (10.48 and 14.16%, respectively) and transference (10.40 and 12.07%, respectively)
Palavras-chave: ácido linoléico, desempenho, eclodibilidade, glicose, glutamina, órgãos digestórios Nutrient inoculation in eggs from heavy breedersABSTRACT -Three experiments were carried out to evaluate the effects of in ovo inoculat ion of linoleic acid, glucose, and glutamine in chick eggs at 16 th day of incubation on hatchability and performance until 10 days of age. It was used a randomized block design with five treatments, as follows: in experiment 1, 0, 100, 200 or 300 µL of linoleic acid; in experiment 2, 0, 100, 200 or 300 mg of glucose; and in experiment 3, 0, 10, 20 or 30 mg of glutamine. The control was represented by the intact eggs in all experiments. In the pre hatch phase, each one of 130 eggs represented an experimental unit, and in post hatch phase each treatment had four replicates with 15 chicks each. The inoculation of linoleic acid or glucose increased embryo mortality and decreased hatchability and chick weight:egg weight ratio. In ovo inoculation of linoleic acid resulted in lighter chicks. In ovo inoculation of linoleic acid, glucose, and glutamine at different concentrations did not improve bird hatchability and performance until 10 days of age. O acesso do embrião a nutrientes pode melhorar o desenvolvimento do sistema digestório Smirnov et al., 2004), a eclodibilidade e o desempenho do frango. Com base nesta...
