Dynamic investigation of a three-component force-moment sensor

Abstract: This paper describes the dynamic characteristics of a three-component force-moment sensor with the transverse forces Fx and Fy each having 200 N capacity and a twisting moment Mz of 10 N m capacity. We have evaluated the dynamic characteristics of the force-moment sensor by using a shaker system and a multi-channel dynamic analyser system. It reveals that the sensitivity decreases as the frequency increases and that the sensor has a 90° symmetry due to its geometry.

“…Park et al have used this method for the dynamic investigation of multicomponent force-moment sensors. 9,10 However, this method is not suitable for evaluating the impulse response of transducers, which is important particularly in the crash testing of structures, instruments, and machines. The author also proposed a method for calibrating force transducers under oscillation force by means of modifying the previous method using the mass levitation and the optical interferometer.…”

“…[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] These attempts can be divided into three categories: methods for calibrating transducers using an impact force, 1,2 methods for calibrating transducers against a step force, 3 and methods for calibrating transducers against an oscillation force. [4][5][6][7] The author has proposed a method, the levitation mass method. In the method, the inertial force of a mass levitated using a pneumatic linear bearing is used as the reference force applied to the objects under test, such as force transducers, materials, or structures.…”

“…This method will be effective for evaluating the characteristics of force transducers under the conditions in which calibration is conducted, such as continuous vibration at a single frequency. Park et al use this method for dynamic investigation of multicomponent force-moment sensors (11), (12) . In this paper, a novel instrumentation, which is capable for determining both the viscoelasticity under impact load and the dynamical friction based on the definition of force, is described.…”
