Method for evaluating material viscoelasticity

Abstract: A method for evaluating the viscoelasticity of materials under oscillation load is proposed. In the method, a material under test is connected to a mass, which generates an oscillating inertial force after the mass is manually struck using a hammer. A pneumatic linear bearing is used to realize linear motion with sufficiently small friction acting on the mass that is the moving part of the bearing. The inertial force acting on the mass is determined highly accurately by means of measuring the velocity of the m… Show more

“…In this case, the instantaneous value of impact force is measured as the inertial force acting on the mass, by means of measuring the instantaneous acceleration of the mass. The method has also been improved as a method for evaluating the oscillation response (3) , as a method for evaluating the step response (4) , as a method for determining the material viscoelasticity (5) and as a method for determining the material friction (6) . The other method, which was proposed and has been developed by Kumme, uses the inertial force of the attached mass generated by a shaker (9), (10) .…”

“…Gel sheets have been widely used in various materials due to their unique and impact resistant properties such as high elasticity and viscoelasticity [36][37][38]. Therefore, get sheets are very important for industrial automotive that are capable of safely withstanding significant impacts, thermal gel sheets that are dissipation of heat in electronic components, medical scar gel sheets, mat industry, and various capable for reducing extreme shock, vibration environments, high damping, protection for fragile components from earthquake effects, seat cushion and etc.…”

“…8 The author has also applied the levitation mass method for material testing, such as methods for evaluating material viscoelasticity under an oscillating load 9 and under an impact load 10 and a method for generating and measuring micro-Newton level forces. 11 The levitation mass method has been proven to be a very accurate and efficient method for measuring the varying force based on the definition of force, the product of mass, and acceleration.…”
