Design Optimization of Hybrid-Switch Soft-Switching Inverters Using Multiscale Electrothermal Simulation

Abstract: The development of a fully automated tool that is used to optimize the design of a hybrid switch soft-switching inverter using a library of dynamic electro-thermal component models parameterized in terms of electrical, structural and material properties is presented. A multi-scale electro-thermal simulation approach is developed allowing for a large number of parametric studies involving multiple design variables to be considered, drastically reducing simulation time.Traditionally, electro-thermal simulation a… Show more

“…The behavioral model alongside loss parameters taken from the device datasheet has been adopted in this paper due to its simplicity as in [24]. Moreover, in [25,26], the adopted behavioral model provides a good estimate of the actual losses as can be deduced from their comparative analysis.…”

“…Additionally, some schemes suffer from unequal thermal stress between semiconductor switches [17]- [19] and others from considerable low-order harmonics resulting in pulsating torque phenomenon. Ultimately, continuous PWM schemes' modulators are employed in overmodulation region.…”

“…As described above, the switching losses in the inverter with SPWM are more, which further leads to a fall in the efficiency of electrical energy output. It also puts too much pressure on the thermal control of the switch [3]. At very high values of m, the smoothness of output waveform becomes very good.…”
