Dendrobine attenuates gestational diabetes mellitus in mice by inhibiting Th17 cells

Abstract: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common disease in pregnant women with a prevalence from 1.4% to 14% based on the population studied. The number of patients with GDM is increasing annually, and yet, the treatment for GDM remains limited. In this study, we aimed to explore the potential of dendrobine against GDM. For this purpose, a genetic mouse model of GDM was established. GDM mice were orally administered with 20 mg/kg dendrobine daily from the beginning of pregnancy to delivery. It was found that d… Show more

“…The appropriate concentration of dendrobine enhanced the proliferation and promoted the apoptosis of HUVECs exposed to TM, accompanied by a marked decrease in the levels of GRP78, Ire1, CHOP and caspase-3. Dendrobine was reported to reduce inflammation in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and produces a protective effect on ameliorating the symptoms of GDM and isoniazid – and rifampicin-induced liver injury [ 29 , 30 ]. In addition, it has a potential anti-tumor effect on non-small cell lung cancer [ 16 ].…”

“…Another study reported that there was a direct negative association between the miR-381-3p levels and the sensitivity to apoptosis; the ectopic expression of miR-381-3p exerted an inhibitory effect on the activation of caspase-3 [ 15 ]. Dendrobine has been shown to have the ability to lower glucose and lipid levels, exert antitumor effects, reduce inflammation and apoptosis, and to attenuate cell senescence [ 16 , 17 ]. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear.…”

“…Moreover, recent biological studies have demonstrated that dendrobine possesses an antiviral activity against influenza A viruses during the early stage of the viral replication cycle [20] and hepatoprotective effects against carbon tetrachlorideinduced mouse liver injury by activating the antioxidant nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway [19]. Furthermore, dendrobine alleviates gestational diabetes mellitus symptoms and inflammation in mice via T helper 17 (Th17) cells [21] and enhances the anticancer activity of cisplatin against human NSCLC A549 cells in vitro and in vivo [22]. However, the effects of dendrobine against IR-induced cancer cell migration, invasion, and metastasis, as well as its molecular mechanisms, have not yet been investigated.…”
