Decision Support System for Determining the Quality of Salt in Sumenep Madura-Indonesia

Abstract: Salt is one of Indonesia’s major commodities. However, the quality of industrial salt in Indonesia is still an obstacle, so the need for industrial salt still relies on imported salt, especially from Australia. Quality improvement is done through purification using the recrystallization method. The use of a method that is still simple results in the salt being produced still has an as-is quality. Quality is shown from the appearance of salt physically and chemically. Good salt is shown by the crystal form whic… Show more

“…Not all salt produced meets the necessary standards for consumption or use in industries. Factors such as contamination, mineral content, and concentrations of active compounds play a role in determining salt quality [7]. Therefore, monitoring and testing the quality of salt are essential tasks.…”

“…Salt is part of the chemical that can be used and needed by humans in the field of consumption or industry. Sodium chloride (NaCl) is the main constituent in salt, besides that there are other constituents such as magnesium, calcium sulfate, iodine, and so on [1] [2]. The salt formation can be done in several ways, one of which is by evaporating seawater to produce salt crystals [3].…”

The salt formation can be done in several ways, one of which is by evaporating seawater to produce salt crystals [3]. Therefore, Indonesia, which is a country with a very long coastline, can meet and produce national salt needs independently [4].…”
