Cytophotometric Determination of the Amount of DNA in Arachis L. Sect. Arachis (Leguminosae)

Abstract: The 2C amounts of DNA for 12 taxa of the section Arachis nom. nud. of the genus Arachis L. were determined using cytophotometric techniques. The diploid taxa ranged from 4.92 to 5.98 pg of DNA per cell. The species of the diploid series Annuae Krap. & Greg. nom. nud. averaged ca. 1 pg less DNA per cell than the taxa of the diploid series Perennes Krap. & Greg. nom. nud. No significant differences were found between taxa within these two series. The tetraploid taxa ranged from 10.36 to 11.35 pg of DNA per cell.… Show more

“…At this point, the erythrocytes were subjected to mithramycin buffer and mithramycin A in the same manner as the endosperm and embryo cells. The embryo cells and chicken erythrocytes were used as references since embryo cells range between 2 C and 4 C, and Gallus erythrocytes contain approximately 3.0 pg DNA per nucleus with a number of reports setting a range of 2.5 to 3.97 pg [Dhillon et al, 1977;Resslar et al, 1981;Dhillon and Miksche, 1983;LeGal et al, 1984;Rasch, 1985;Berlyn et al, 19861.…”
