Crystal structure of cobalt molybdate hydrate CoMoO4·nH2O

Abstract: We have determined the crystal structure of the title compound, which has a triclinic cell with cell parameters of a=6.844 Å, b=6.933 Å, c=9.339 Å, α =76.617 °, β =84.188 °, γ =74.510 ° and space group Pī. The crystal structure suggests the chemical formula CoMoO 4. 3/4H 2 O. The structure consists of MoO 4 tetrahedra and CoO 6 octahedra, confirming the earlier XANES investigation on the hydrate. The comparison of the crystal structures of the hydrate and the α-, β-, and hp-phases shows that the hydrate exhibi… Show more

“…Therefore, four stoichiometric type CoMoO 4 crystalline structures are reported by the literature. The phase -CoMoO 4 was verified at low temperatures [18]; at high temperatures, the -CoMoO 4 phase was stable [19] while at high pressures, the hydrated phase (CoMoO 4 ·xH 2 O) is the more stable phase [10].…”

“…In addition, CoMoO 4 can also be applied in the electronics and bioscience industries due to its structural, magnetic, electronic and antibacterial properties [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17]. Therefore, four stoichiometric type CoMoO 4 crystalline structures are reported by the literature.…”

“…Nevertheless, there might be some structural relationship to the experimentally observed hydrated CoMoO 4 x H 2 O structure. [40] Finally, we depict the CoMoO 4 -PRD7 modification in figure 4b, which is found in ß20% of the local minimizations. This structure is highly interesting since it shows orthorhombic symmetry with space group P222 (no.…”
