Correlations of Hormone Receptors (ER and PR), Her2/neu and p53 Expression in Breast Ductal Carcinoma Among Yemeni Women

Abstract: Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine if any relationship exists between Estrogen Receptor (ER),Progesterone Receptor (PR), Her2/neu, P53, and clinicopathological factors in female breast ductal carcinoma. Materials and Methods: One hundred and thirty seven (IDC=124, NIDC=13) ductal carcinomas were clinicopathologically and immunohistochemically analyzed and compared with 20 control cases of benign breast lesions in which assessment of Her-2/neu, ER, PR, and P53 has been performed, prospectively. “…Immunohistochemically, 23.6% of all 509 cases were triple negative. These findings are analogous to other similar studies done by Ayadi et al .,[ 4 ] Ahmed et al .,[ 5 ] and Vasudha et al . [ 6 ] On the contrary, studies done by Lal et al .,[ 7 ] Moser Emliroise et al .,[ 8 ] Vaidhyanatha et al .,[ 9 ] and Munjal et al .…”

“…Our findings correlated well with the studies of Bhagat et al 3 and Thiyagarajan et al 16 with lymph node involvement seen in 53.44% and 53.3% of the cases respectively. However, Ahmed et al 19 , Nisa et al 18 and Siadati et al 8 21 , Agarwal et al 22 , Thangjam et al 23 and Shukla et al 24 We observed that positivity for estrogen receptor decreased as the grades increased. Maximum percentage of ER positivity was observed in cases with grade I (75%) which declined in grade II (44.11%) followed by grade III (11.11%).…”

“…In our study, majority of the cases presented with grade II tumors (61.82%), followed by grade I (21.82%) while least number of the patients belonged to grade III (16.36%). Grade II had also been observed as the most common grade by the studies of Nisa et al 18 (55.33%), Ahmed et al 19 (55.2%), Bhagat et al 3 (43.1%), Geethmala et al 20 (54.0%) and Tiwari et al 17 (68.7%).…”

“…OGG1 mutation frequencies were also correlated with different clinicopathological parameters and significant findings were observed. Higher mutation frequencies were found to be associated with invasive ductal carcinoma, family history of cancer, early menopause, smoking history, and negative ER, PR, and HER-2/ neu status which have been reported to contribute in breast cancer development in Pakistani populations [ 24 , 25 ] and worldwide [ 25 , 26 ]. Use of tobacco has been considered a well-known environmental risk factor of various cancers.…”
