The five authors of this article designed a multicase study to follow recent graduates of an elementary preservice teacher education program into their beginning teaching placements and explore the ways in which they enacted social justice curricula. The authors highlight the stories of three beginning teachers, honoring the plurality of their conceptions of social justice teaching and the resiliency they exhibited in translating social justice ideals into viable pedagogy. They also discuss the struggles the teachers faced when enacting social justice curricula and the tenuous connection they perceived between their conceptions and their practices. The authors emphasize that such struggles are inevitable and end the article with recommendations for ways in which teacher educators can prepare beginning teachers for the uncertain journey of teaching for social justice.
The successful practice of innovation in any organization demands the integration and interaction of individual, collective, and organizational climate levels of management. Leadership styles have an impact on all these three levels of management. However, little work has been done to assess this impact, especially in the context of United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based organizations. This study was conducted with the purpose of assessing whether leadership processes, tools, and techniques differ in innovative organizations and, thereafter, propose general leadership requirements for innovative projects in the UAE. This study adopts statistical data-processing methods, such as descriptive statistics, the reliability of the instrument, correlation, and regression analysis. Data obtained through a survey of UAE-based organizations were used for analyzing whether innovativeness (as perceived by employees) is statistically correlated with leadership dimensions. The research results show that the transformational leadership style scores better over transactional leadership when it comes to predicting innovations.
Introduction: Ovarian tumors represent about 30% of all cancers of the female genital system and 4% of all cancers in women. Indian trend analysis reveal a steady increase in the age-standardized incidence rate of ovarian cancer over past years, comprising up to 8.7% of cancers in different parts of the country. Aim and objective: To study the morphological pattern of benign and malignant ovarian neoplasm in various age presenting at our center over a period of 5-years. Material and methods: The present study was conducted retrospectively in the department of Pathology, BPS, GMC, Khanpur Kalan, Sonipat. Data was collected after reviewing cases from 2012 to 2016 (5years). All cases of ovarian neoplasm both primary (benign and malignant) and metastatic were included in the study. Results: Of the total 152 ovarian specimens that presented during the study period, 119 were benign, 5 were borderline tumors and 28 malignant. Most of the benign tumors occurred between 20-40 years of age, while malignant tumors presented commonly after 50 years of age. Out of these only 24 cases had bilateral ovarian neoplasm. Surface epithelial tumors were the most common type followed by germ cell tumors. Conclusion: Benign ovarian tumors were more common than malignant ones across all age groups. On morphological grounds, tumors originating from surface epithelium were the most common variant.
Opportunistic subcutaneous fungal infections are increasing in present times due to increasing incidence of many medical conditions causing immunosupression like diabetes, AIDS, organ transplant recipients and anticancer therapy. Pyrenochaeta romeroi, a fungus from the dematiaceae group, first described by Borelli in 1959, is saprophyte to soil and plants.We present a rare case of subcutaneous phaeohyphomycotic cyst in a diabetic female caused by P. romeroi.
This paper illustrates an architectural design of a novel variable input-feature correlated asynchronous sampling and time-encoded digitization approach for source compression and direct feature extraction from physiological signals. The complete architecture represents an analog-to-information (A2I) converter, designed for ultra-low-power mixed-signal very-large-scale integrated implementation. The device will be suitable for long-term wearable monitoring of physiological signals, such as electrocardiogram (ECG). We show representative case studies on QRS detection in an ECG signal utilizing the proposed A2I converter to prove the functionality of the design. Simulation results show large source compression in the ECG signal and more than 98% efficiency in the detection of the Q, R, and S waves for challenging ECG waveforms, all with extremely low-power and storage requirements.
