Correlation of biometrical characteristics of fruit and seed with twinning and vigor of Prunus persica rootstocks

Abstract: -This study aimed at determining and correlating the main morphometric characteristics of fruits and seeds with the germination potential and vigor of eight peach rootstocks. The experimental design was completely randomized, with four replications of 50 seeds per treatment. The analyzed variables were: length, width, thickness, fresh mass of fruit and seeds, moisture content of seeds, percentage of seeds attacked by fungi and intact seeds, germination percentage, germination speed index (GSI) and mean germina… Show more

“…Aldrighi 1 is an old cultivar used as a rootstock that has good grafting affinity for most peach tree cultivars used in Brazil, inducing medium scion vigor and productivity. However, Souza et al (2016) verified that Aldrighi 1 rootstock induced greater fruit mass and vigor than Tsukuba 2 rootstock. The cultivar is susceptible to root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.).…”

“…Positive correlations were found for the variables associated with the levels of chlorophyll and N, ranging from moderate to high magnitude (Table 7). According to Souza et al (2016), a correlation is considered of high magnitude when the correlation coefficient ranges from 0.8 ≤ r < 1.0. Positive correlations of high magnitude were obtained between the CHLI and the CHLT content of the leaves of the 'Okinawa Roxo' plants.…”

“…There are no studies of the chemical and physiological attributes of the red-leaved cultivars of the peach tree found in the literature, and 'Okinawa Roxo' is a read leaf peach rootstock with great potential for use in Brazil (Souza et al, 2016;Souza et al, 2017), a fact which stimulated the development of the present study.…”

“…American Journal of Plant Sciences and between production cycles [19]. Peach seeds with higher values of length, width and thickness presented a higher germination rate and more vigorous plants [20]. Pulp and peel yield was 96.65% for the fruits harvested from the mother plants in Caparaó-MG (L2), differing from the values obtained from fruits harvested from the mother plants in Caparaó-ES (L1), which was 86.06%, values higher than those found by Guilherme et al [17] in a fruit mesocarp harvested in Ponta Grossa-PR, which was 83.3% and Eugenia calycina fruits, whose pulp yield was 59.1% [21].…”
