Controlled release of curcumin from poly(HEMA-MAPA) membrane

Abstract: In this work, poly(HEMA-MAPA) membranes were prepared by UV-polymerization technique. These membranes were characterized by SEM, FTIR, and swelling studies. Synthesized membranes had high porous structure. These membranes were used for controlled release of curcumin which is already used as folk remedy and used as drug for some certain diseases and cancers. Curcumin release was investigated for various pHs and temperatures. Optimum drug release yield was found to be as 70% at pH 7.4 and 37 °C within 2 h period… Show more

“…So, the zein-THY/c-CD-IC-NF (1:1) could not preserve THY as effectively as zein-THY/c-CD-IC-NF (2:1). In addition, as the temperature increased, the amount of THY released increased as well for all nanofibrous web samples, due to the increment in the motion of the polymer chains (Galotto, Torres, Guarda, Moraga, & Romero, 2011) and enhanced kinetic energy of THY causing hydrogen bonds to weaken (Caka et al, 2016). To our knowledge, there is no study in the literature, in which THY/CD-ICs were incorporated into electrospun nanofibers.…”

“…They obtained optimum values which were very compatible with in-body usage without any extreme release factors [50]. Çetin and Denizli have prepared 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) imprinted cryogel discs using a coordination complex between metal-chelate monomer MAH and 5-FU with the assistance of Cu(II) ion [51]. The complex was copolymerized with HEMA to produce PHEMAH cryogel discs.…”

“…Over 100 new natural products are in clinical assessment, for their anticancer effects . Among the natural phytochemicals, Curcumin (CUR) (diferuloyl methane), a low-molecular-weight, bright yellow natural polyphenolic compound that is isolated from the rhizome of turmeric (Curcuma longa) has been used in the treatment of inflammatory disorders and cancer [1][2][3]. CUR can decrease tumor growth through various mechanisms, counting antitumor angiogenesis, suppression of proliferation, apoptosis induction and metastasis prevention [4,5].…”
