Comparison study of the axial length measured using the new swept-source optical coherence tomography ANTERION and the partial coherence interferometry IOL Master

Abstract: Purpose To compare a biometer using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) with a partial coherence interferometry (PCI)-based biometer in measurements of two ocular biometry parameters, i.e., the axial length and anterior cornea curvature. Methods We compared the two biometers SS-OCT (ANTERION, Heidelberg Engineering Inc., Heidelberg, Germany) and PCI (IOL Master, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany) in terms of the axial length (AL) and corneal curvature (K) measurements of 175 eyes. Paired t-tes… Show more

“…Furthermore, Anterion showed good agreement in various biometric parameters with other biometers, e.g. IOL Master500 (a PCI system) [ 14 , 18 ], Pentacam (Scheimpflug system) [ 19 ], MS 39 (combined placido disk and AS-OCT) [ 14 ], and CASIA SS 100 (SS-OCT) [ 20 ]. Anterion could be applied for reliable irido-corneal angle evaluation prior to and after LPI in PACD patients [ 21 ].…”

“…The IOLMaster 500 is based on the partial coherence interferometry principle; however, the device uses a different principle to measure the ACD. The ACD was measured by projecting a 0.7 mm wide slit-light beam at 30° and assessing the distance between the light reflection of the anterior corneal surface and anterior lens surface [ 12 ]. The IOLMaster 500 measures AL based on the partial coherence interferometry principle using a laser diode generating 780 nm infrared light of short-coherence light [ 13 , 14 ].…”

“…The cornea app can display the spatial thickness of the cornea as well as axial and tangential curvature data of both anterior and posterior surfaces, whereas the metrics app aids in glaucoma evaluation. [ 6 ]…”
