“…Antioxidant activity plays an essential role in fighting against diseases and increasing the immunity of the body. Antioxidants scavenge free radicals and protect the body from oxidative stress caused by DNA damage during the diseased condition (Singh et al ., 2022). The antioxidant activity of the Moringa oleifera flower extract was measured by DPPH assay and was found to be 59.65% (Table 3).…”

“…The water absorption index and water solubility index of the Moringa oleifera flower powder were found to be 10.60 ± 0.10 (g/g) and 8.70 ± 0.20 (%), respectively. The high content of major components such as carbohydrates and proteins gives a higher water absorption index, while the presence of high lipid content decreases the water absorption index (Singh et al ., 2022). On the other hand, the high soluble fibre content increases the water solubility index while the high content of starch decreases the solubility index (Sahan et al ., 2015).…”

“…[3,4] The presence of natural antioxidants in herbs has bestowed them therapeutic properties. [5] They comprise a large number of oxygen-containing functional groups such as hydroxyl, carboxyl, and carbonyl groups. [6] Amongst all the components present in the corn silk structure, flavonoids are the main contributors to the therapeutic effects including antibacterial activity.…”

“…Corn silk is typically discarded as agricultural waste; however, it may also be useful in the treating kidney stones, nephritis, cystitis and prostatitis. Flavonoids, saponins, alkaloids, polypentose and certain volatile oils are chemical ingredients of corn silk that are used to treat diabetes, celiac disease, jaundice, measles and hematuria (Hasanudin et al ., 2012; Singh et al ., 2022). Recent studies suggest antioxidant, antidiabetic (Chang et al ., 2016; Zhang et al ., 2016), anti‐obesity (Chaiittianan et al ., 2016), neuroprotective and antidepressant (Choi et al ., 2014), anticancer (Lee et al ., 2014) and other bioactivities of corn silk.…”
