-In order to verify Point-Centered Quarter Method (PCQM) accuracy and efficiency, using different numbers of individuals by per sampled area, in 28 quarter points in an Araucaria forest, southern Paraná, Brazil. Three variations of the PCQM were used for comparison associated to the number of sampled individual trees: standard PCQM (SD-PCQM), with four sampled individuals by point (one in each quarter), second measured (VAR1-PCQM), with eight sampled individuals by point (two in each quarter), and third measuring (VAR2-PCQM), with 16 sampled individuals by points (four in each quarter). Thirty-one species of trees were recorded by the SD-PCQM method, 48 by VAR1-PCQM and 60 by VAR2-PCQM. The level of exhaustiveness of the vegetation census and diversity index showed an increasing number of individuals considered by quadrant, indicating that VAR2-PCQM was the most accurate and efficient method when compared with VAR1-PCQM and SD-PCQM.

ResumoEste estudo foi conduzido em três diferentes condições de plantios de Pinus taeda L., sem desbastes, com 10, 9 e 7 anos de idade, 2.000 árvores por hectare e diferentes inclinações no terreno, localizados no estado do Paraná. O objetivo foi avaliar a eficiência do inventário utilizando-se a amostragem de área variável ponto de Bitterlich e de área fixa com conglomerado em linha, através da análise do comportamento quanto às precisões e eficiências relativas na estimativa das seguintes variáveis: diâmetro médio (cm), número de árvores por ha, área basal (m 2 /ha) e volume total (m 3 /ha). Para isso, utilizou-se o delineamento em blocos casualizados com 40 unidades amostrais para o método ponto de Bitterlich (PB) e 10 unidades para o método de área fixa com conglomerado em linha (CL), sendo este composto por 4 subunidades. Concluiu-se que, para as variáveis diâmetro médio (cm) e número de árvores por ha, indica-se a utilização do método de área fixa com conglomerado em linha (CL), já que a eficiência para a obtenção dessas variáveis é maior. Já para as variáveis área basal (m 2 /ha) e volume (m 3 /ha), indica-se a utilização do método de área variável ponto de Bitterlich (PB), tendo em vista a maior eficiência no levantamento dessas variáveis. Palavras-chave: Eficiência relativa; precisão; métodos de amostragem. Abstract Forest inventory efficiency with Bitterlich sampling method and line cluster sampling in Pinus taedastands. This study was carried out in three different stands of Pinus taeda L., unthinned and aged 10,9 and 7 years. The stands have 2.000 trees per hectare and are located in Parana State. The aim was to evaluate the costs of inventories using Bitterlich Sampling and the sampling method with Line Cluster to analyze the accuracies behavior and relative efficiencies for estimation of the following variables: average diameter at breast height, number of trees, basal area and total volume per hectare. In order to that, it was taken a sample of 40 units to the PB method and 10 units for the CL method, which is composed of four subunits, and it was used the randomized block design. It was concluded that for the variable diameter (cm) and number of trees per ha it is indicated the use of the plot sampling with Cluster Line, since the efficiency to obtain these variables is greater. For the variables basal area per ha (m 2 ) and total volume (m 3 ) it is indicated the use of Bitterlich sampling method (PB), since the efficiency is greater in the survey of these variables. INTRODUÇÃOA necessidade de saber a quantidade e qualidade dos estoques florestais e sua predição faz com que as empresas busquem informações através de inventários florestais, os quais são feitos com o uso das técnicas de amostragem. A obtenção dessas informações apresenta custos que aumentam com o grau de detalhamento, precisão requerida e eficiência da forma como as variáveis são obtidas, entre outras informações.

The Bitterlich relascope is a multiple use dendrometer widely used in forest inventory. Although it is most commonly used to estimate basal area, the relascope can also estimate other stand variables, including density and diameter distribution. However, forest stand inventories in Spain rarely use relascope plots to estimate these variables due to the belief that they lead to higher errors than fixed-radius plots due to the heterogeneity of many Mediterranean forests. This study compared the accuracy of the estimated averages of three main stand variables (basal area, stand density, and diameter class distribution) in forest stand inventories performed with relascope plots and with conventional fixed-radius circular plots, both measuring a similar number of trees (15)(16)(17)(18)(19)(20). A forest stand inventory simulator (DOMO) was used (1) to generate simulated forest stands corresponding to the nine most common types in the Mediterranean region of Catalonia (NE Spain), including even-aged and uneven-aged stands, and (2) to estimate and compare the average values of these variables at the forest stand level resulting from both plot types. In general, we did not find significant accuracy differences between the inventory systems for most of the stand variables and forest types studied, as expected by established angle-count sampling theory. However, the results show that for stands with multiple strata and open structures, the Bitterlich relascope provides a more accurate estimate for basal area than for density, while the reverse occurs for fixed-radius plots.
