BackgroundBiopharmaceutics classification system class II drugs have low solubility, which limits their extent and speed of absorption after oral administration. Over the years, mesoporous materials have been widely used to increase the dissolution rate and oral relative bioavailability of poorly water-soluble drugs.ObjectivesIn order to improve the dissolution rate and increase oral relative bioavailability of the poorly water-soluble drugs, a tin oxide carrier (MSn) with a mesoporous structure was successfully synthesized.MethodsIn this study, MSn was synthesized using mesoporous silica material (SBA-15) as the template. Fenofibrate (FNB) was adsorbed into the channels of MSn by an adsorption method. Characterizations of the pure FNB, MSn, physical mixture of the drug and MSn (PM; 1:1) and FNB-loaded MSn (FNB-MSn) samples were carried out by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N2 adsorption/desorption, powder X-ray diffractometer (PXRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Cytotoxicity assay (MTT) was used to evaluate the cytotoxicity of MSn. In vitro dissolution studies were performed to investigate the dissolution rate of FNB-MSn. In vivo pharmacokinetic studies were used to investigate the changes of plasma drug concentrations of FNB-MSn tablets and commercial FNB tablets in rabbits.ResultsDetailed characterization showed that FNB in the channels of MSn was present in an amorphous state. The in vitro release tests demonstrated that MSn with a good biocompatibility could effectively enhance the dissolution rate of FNB. Pharmacokinetic results indicated that MSn significantly increased the oral relative bioavailability of FNB.ConclusionMSn can be regarded as a promising carrier for an oral drug delivery system.

The traditional System of medicine comprises a wide variety of formulations for various ailments. It is essential to Standardize Ayurvedic drugs so that drugs having good quality can be used for better effect. Standardization is not only limited to the final preparation, but it also includes the materials used during the development and SOP adopted and the equipment used. The present study is an attempt to prepare anti anaemic herbomineral nanoceutical by two different processes, and to standardize and evaluate the haemopoietic effect of the prepared formulations and compare with a marketed formulation. Preparation was done based on Ayurveda Pharmacopoeia. Formulations were characterized by conventional methods and by AAS, XRD, EDAX, SEM, TGA, and IR. The toxicity and anti-anaemic effectiveness are evaluated by using albino Wister rats and histopathology and cytotoxicity studies. Products have a crystalline nature (XRD). TGA shows the decomposition temp of ferric oxide. SEM EDAX revealed surface smoothness and nano to the micro size of particles. AAS shows that the elements are within the prescribed limits. The in-process Standardization shows the effectiveness of adjuvants. There is an increase of haemoglobin and body weight on day 75 for first preparation than the Second and were comparable to that of standard. No toxicity in all rats and indicated no renal and gastrointestinal toxicity. The size, smoother surface, and the therapeutic effectiveness of the herbominerals prepared by the two methods can be attributed to the calcination steps and adjuvants. Thus, maybe dose reduction and rapid effect can be achieved.

Abstract. The traditional systems of Medicines are considered as a safer therapy. This context urges the need of Characterization of traditional medicines for their worldwide acceptance and for the safer, efficacious use. Bhasma the traditional Herbo mineral Ayurvedic formulation prepared by bhasmikaran process. Shanka Bhasma is prepared from the shell of a marine organism is a well-known herbo mineral formulation used for the treatment of peptic ulcer. In the present study, shanka bhasma was prepared and its characterization was done by traditional methods and by modern analytical Parameters like IR, X-ray, EDAX TGA and atomic absorption methods. Its antiulcer effect was also evaluated by animal studies.
