Characteristic analysis and design of a novel permanent magnetic actuator for a vacuum circuit breaker

Abstract: In this study, a novel permanent magnetic actuator (PMA) termed a separated permanent magnetic actuator (SPMA) is proposed. The efficiency of the proposed SPMA is significantly higher than a conventional PMA because of its innovative structure, with which the magnetic flux path is efficient and the holding forces can be designed independently taking the unique values of each load into consideration. Hence, the SPMA is smaller in size and lower in cost than the conventional PMA. For the SPMA, a characteristic a… Show more

“…Machine 2 represents the less-slots structure of a limited angle permanent magnet brushless DC servo motor actuator, and Machine 3 represents the proposed LSATPMM. 20 20 In [33][34][35][36], different permanent magnetic actuators were presented to improve efficiency, reliability and other performance factors. Ref [5,6,37,38] used the monostable and bistable Thomson-coil actuator (TCA) to increase the rapidity, reduce the complexity and improve the reliability of a high-voltage circuit breaker.…”

“…In the previous studies of IDD [5,6,7] such analyticnumerical approach has not been used, and this approach has the obvious advantage of significantly shortening the computation time. The computation time will be even more important if in the future there appears an idea of fully coupling electrodynamic model with a mechanical.…”
