Challenge Experiments with the Virus of Aujeszky's Disease in Non-Vaccinated and Vaccinated Sheep

Abstract: Summary Experiments were carried out to determine whether sheep are suitable as experimental animals when investigating the effectiveness of Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV) vaccines. After intradermal inoculation of 102TCID50, or more of virulent ADV, strain Van Doorn, all 19 infected non‐vaccinated sheep showed characteristic clinical symptoms of Aujeszky's disease 4–7 days after inoculation.
