Biocompatibility of a new nanomaterial based on calcium silicate implanted in subcutaneous connective tissue of rats

Abstract: The aim of the study was to investigate rat connective tissue response to a new calcium silicate system 7, 15, 30 and 60 days after implantation. Twenty Wistar albino male rats received two tubes half-filled with a new calcium silicate system (NCSS) or MTA in subcutaneous tissue. The empty half of the tubes served as controls. Five animals were sacrificed after 7, 15, 30 and 60 days and samples of the subcutaneous tissue around implanted material were submitted to histological analysis. The intensity of … Show more

“…Finally, water was added to the mixture in a 1:2 ratio, to create cement paste. The second material used was calcium silicate (CS): 60% of the total quantity was β-C2S and C3S phase, with added components: 20% calcium carbonate (CaCO 3 ) and 20% BaSO 4 (Merck, Germany) [5,6,17] .…”

“…In contact with biomaterial, tissue should not exhibit cytotoxic, genotoxic, mutagenic or allergic reactions [3][4][5] . If changes occur on the surrounding tissue, they are in the form of inflammation, necrosis, infiltration, encapsulation or some other reaction by the tissue [6] .…”
