Augmented Reality for virtual user manual

Abstract: The present work aims to propose a new approach for defining interactive user manual in complex assemblies, using a new enabling technology of Industry 4.0, i.e. Augmented Reality. The AR environment supports the user in stepby-step assembly on-the-fly. The study of this method, suitable to realize the assembly of parts, is a stimulating engineering mission, which can take advantage from the latest innovations in imagining technologies and computer graphics. In the present paper, a proposal for an innovative m… Show more

“…In the latest years, the escalation of additive manufacturing and augmented reality technologies has spread new perspectives in the use of CT. The 3D medical modeling, along with the Augmented Reality Training, is revolutionizing surgical training [1], providing a more accessible, less expensive, even more realistic, experience for surgeons, rather than the traditional training on cadavers. The 3D medical modeling can be useful for surgical robot operations where the doctor does not have direct contact with the surgical area.…”

“…Their main advantage is that they do not built upon cost and time consuming recompilation steps, and consequently the updates to the application are fast and can be completed efficiently. Other authors [14,40,60,63] automated certain aspects of content creation, so assembly instructions can be automatically generated from CAD files, thus reducing the authoring burden. However, fine-tuning existent tools to solve a specific domain problem remains a open challenge.…”

“…There are of course many cases where this realism is not necessary, but could make the job more immersive [5,6]. In VR applications, the principal requirement is the sense of presence, the power for the graphics user believe he is in an environment that does not exist.…”
