Assessment of working conditions in two different semiconductor manufacturing lines: Effective ergonomics interventions

Abstract: This article examines two manufacturing lines producing semiconductors using different technology concepts, namely Conventional Line (CL) and Lean Production Line (LPL). Both lines manufacturing the same products were compared using various factors, including working conditions, task risks and dangers of the job, and physical body stress. Ergonomic approaches were adopted in the investigation of the two lines. Survey questionnaires were administered to 30% of the workers, and multiple statistical tests were us… Show more

“…Studies were excluded if: (1) they were not related to healthcare system redesign (e.g., Casler and Cook 2003; Wong and Richardson 2010), (2) they described best practices or methods (e.g., Beuscart-Zephir et al 2007; Henriksen, Joseph and Zayas-Caban 2009), (3) they only presented a research protocol (e.g., Hysong et al 2009; Marshall et al 2011), and (4) they reported on general quality improvement (e.g., Amoore and Ingram 2002; Mutter 2003). …”

“…There were many studies that stressed the importance of ergonomics cost effectiveness justification, for example Dul and Neumann (2009), Wong and Richardson (2010), Sen and Yeow (2003b) and Sen (2003, 2006). Cost effectiveness is an important part of ergonomics for it to be affordable to the industry.…”
