Application of Photogrammetry in Biomedical Science

Abstract: Photogrammetry is an upcoming technology in biomedical science as it provides a non-invasive and cost-effective alternative to established 3D imaging techniques such as computed tomography. This review introduces the photogrammetry approaches currently used for digital 3D reconstruction in biomedical science and discusses their suitability for different applications. It aims to offer the reader a better understanding of photogrammetry as a 3D reconstruction technique and to provide some guidance on how to choo… Show more

“…The technique of photogrammetry (13) has been used to reconstruct 3D rotatable cadaveric models. At Aberdeen a dedicated team have developed a bank of 3D cadaveric images (14) Compared to commercially available 3D resources they are authentic, made from departmental specimens and show more information including normal variations and pathology. Some models have step-by-step layered 'dissection' and labelling that familiarises students with spatial relationships.…”
