“…In addition, this model allows the histometric and quantitative evaluation of a tested drug response on epidermal differentiation. [34,37,38] The tail skin, unlike other parts of the mouse's body, is histologically and biochemically similar to the human psoriatic skin. The area of the epidermis next to hair follicles and sebaceous glands (interscale area) is analogous to normal and healthy human skin, which presents the granular layer, as the keratinocyte proliferation is orthokeratotic ( Figure 2).…”

“…Antipsoriatic agents are able to induce orthokeratosis and the appearance of the granular layer in the scaling area by decelerating the hyperproliferation phenomenon, which is measured in the mouse tail test. [34,37,39] The absence of the granular layer increases the risk of skin wounds in patients with psoriasis, and it is important to protect the cutaneous tissue against microorganisms, chemicals and ultraviolet radiation. [40] On the other hand, cutaneous atrophy is the most common side effect of topical glucocorticoid drugs, including clobetasol.…”

“…However, there is a need to document these plants with their known efficacy, so that herbal physicians and psoriasis's patient could take advantages of alternative medicine (Capella, Luigi, & Finzi, ). Plant in which in vitro , in vivo, or clinical efficacy has been established are Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Aloe vera (Syed et al, ) , Memecylon malabaricum (Dhanabal, Muruganantham, Basavaraj, Wadhwani, & Shamasundar, ), Capsicum annuum, Psoralea corylifolia , and Mahonia aquifolium. “…It is used in constipation, cancer, intestinal worms, cough, and psoriasis. It is cathartic, hypoglycemic, and anti‐psoriatic (Dhanabal, Priyanka, Muruganantham, & Vadivelan, ). Aloe vera is used in psoriasis topically and to clear psoriatic plaques.…”

“…Thymidine phosphorylase enzyme is reported to be present in high levels in the psoriatic lesion which is likely to induce psoriasis. [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16] Psoriasis is an autosomal, chronic inflammatory dermatitis affecting 2% of world population. It is present in all racial groups and has a strong genetic component.…”
