Preclinical studies indicate that INFLATIV, an herbal medicine cream containing Pereskia aculeata, presents potential to be marketed as a topical anti-inflammatory agent and as adjuvant in psoriasis therapy

Abstract: Objectives A previous study reported that the hexane fraction (HF) obtained from Pereskia aculeata leaves showed promising topical anti-inflammatory activity. Intending its future use in clinical practice, a herbal medicine cream named INFLATIV was developed. Its anti-inflammatory and antipsoriatic potential were investigated. INFLATIV was subjected to preliminary accelerated stability tests and to a degradation profile assessment. Methods INFLATIV was prepared at 6% and 12%. The anti-inflammatory activity was… Show more

“…The considerable increase in ear thickness and edema formation promoted by croton oil was inhibited by the application of BdR and BOx. Croton oil contains a series of phorbol-12, 13-diesters, which activates protein kinase C and other inflammatory mediators, promoting irritant and cutaneous signs similar to psoriasis [ 28 , 29 ]. Also, topical application of croton oil triggers local inflammation, inducing edema and erythema, also increasing vascular permeability, leukocytes infiltration, synthesis of eicosanoids, and liberation of histamine and serotonin [ 19 ].…”

“…Due to their anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive activities, GBB leaves may have an important role in the pharmaceutical industry. Recently, a phytotherapeutic cream was developed based on P. aculeata leaves and researchers tested its anti-inflammatory and anti-psoriatic potential, demonstrating the therapeutic relevance and marketing associated with the use of this species [11].…”
