Antioxidant Activity, Total Phenol and Total Flavonoid Contents of Trachystemon orientalis (L.) G. Don

Abstract: For many years, plants have been considered a source of alternative medicine and are used for the treatment of several diseases. These medicinal plants are excellent sources of phytochemicals and antioxidant activity. Trachystemon orientalis (L.) G. Don (Boraginaceae) originates from East Bulgaria but can be found mostly in West Caucasia and the Black Sea region of Turkey. Its flowering branches, rhizomes, and leaves are used as food. Materials and Methods: The antioxidant activity of a T. orientalis aqueous i… Show more

“…According to our results, although there are fluctuations in some concentrations, it can be stated that the radical scavenging activity of DPPH increased due to the increasing concentration of T. orientalis extracts. It is seen that there is similar potential in previous studies (Ayhan et al, 2019;Sacan, 2018). It is observed that there are significant changes in the DPPH radical scavenging activity of T. orientalis extract depending on the solvent.…”

“…The phenolic content of the aqueous extract of T. orientalis was reported to be 90 mg GAE/g in another investigation (Ayvaz, 2015).In a previous study, it was found that the total phenolic content equivalent to 36 µg of pyrocatechol was found in the aqueous infusion extract of the T. orientalis. In addition, in this study, it was determined that the anthocyanin level of the T. orientalis was equal to 0.35 µmol/g extract (Sacan, 2018).…”

“…This plant is considered edible since people in the Black Sea region use its flowers, rhizomes, leaves and petioles in different recipes. According to recent reports, galdirik contains anti-rheumatic, blood-purifying, diuretic, antipyretic and wound-healing properties ( 16 ). Additionally, large amounts of phenolic compounds, including tannin, saponin and choline have been found in galdirik in a number of studies.…”
