Antibacterial properties of Ipomoea staphylina Roem & Schult. plant extracts with comparing its preliminary qualitative phytochemical and quantitative GC-MS analysis

Abstract: Ipomoea staphylina plant ethanolic extract was subjected to preliminary qualitative phytochemical and quantitative GC-MS analysis with analyzing its antibacterial activity by the standard method. The preliminary qualitative phytochemical analysis is done by standard procedure and quantitative GCMS analysis is done by subjecting it to GC Model: Thermo Trace GC Ultra model instrument. Antibacterial activity is done by the standard agar well diffusion method. Preliminary qualitative phytochemical analysis for pet… Show more

“…The compounds were identi ed based on the mass fragmentation pattern and comparing the peak area and retention time of the NIST database. The chemical composition of the crude methanol extract is summarized in Table 1, with the most abundant compound being 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (11.11%) used as Antioxidant agent (Shapla et al, 2018), followed by 4H-Pyran-4-one, 2,3-dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl-(7.41%) used as Antimicrobial, anti-in ammatory, antioxidant agent (Padmashree et al, 2018), and Heptanoic acid (7.41%) of unknown medicinal property (Table 1). The detailed mass spectra of the twenty three compounds identi ed by GC-MS analysis of A. nobilis root are shown in Figs.…”

“…Alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tannin, dan minyak atsiri merupakan senyawa umum yang dapat diekstrak dari simplisia bahan alam (berbagai jenis tanaman). Irmadoly et al (2014), Padmashree et al (2018) dan Astiti et al (2018), melaporkan bahwa golongan senyawa-senyawa kimia tersebut mempunyai efek menurunkan kadar LDL kolesterol darah atau sering disebut dengan antihiperkolesterolemia.…”
