Antibacterial and fungicidal activities of ethanol extracts of 38 species of plants

Abstract: Galenic preparations are broadly used against microorganisms pathogenic to humans, thought their poteintial in this aspect is not studied completely. In our in vitro experiment we studied the influence of alcohol tinctures from 38 species of plants on 15 species of bacteria and one species of fungus. Zones of growth inhibition of colonies measuring over 8 mm were observed during the use of ethanol extracts of Maclura pomifera against eight species of microorganisms (Escherichia сoli, Proteus mirabilis, Serrati… Show more

“…Similar effects were observed for ethyl extract of the leaves of L. angustifolia: it notably inhibited growth of colonies of Salmonella typhimurium and Klebsiella pneumonia, weakly affected Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis and fungus of Candida albicans and inhibited no growth of cells of bacteria of Listeria monocytogenes and Corinebacterium xerosis (Zazharskyi et al, 2019). We seen broader range of antibacterial activity in in vitro experiments exhibited by ethyl extract from V. angus-castus that notably inhibited growth of Corinebacterium xerosis, Serratia marcescens, Salmonella typhimurium, Proteus mirabilis; weakly affected growth of colonies of Rhodococcus equi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Yersinia enterocolitica, Klebsiella pneumonia, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, and took no inhibitory effect on growth of colonies of Enterobacter aerogenes, Listeria ivanovi, L. innocua, L. monocytogenes, Campylobacter jejuni and fungus of Candida albicans (Zazharskyi et al, 2020). Also, in our previous studies, we determined that aqueous tincture of V. angus-castus in in vitro experiment had weak lethal effect on larvae of parasitic intestinal nematodes of Strongyloides papillosus (Wedl, 1856), though mortality of nematodes of Haemonchus contortus (Rudolphi, 1803) in aqueous tincture of this plants was no different from the control (Boyko et al, 2020).…”

“…Серія «Ветеринарна медицина», випуск 3 (54), 2021 of saline solutions reduces the spread of the pathogen L. monocytogenes (Shmychkova et al, 2021). The growth of pathogenic microorganisms is influenced by the antibacterial and fungicidal action of ethanol plant extracts and herbal infusions (Zazharskyi et al, 2019;Zazharskyi et al, 2020).…”

“…The most significant parameter of disinfection efficiency is the reduction of microbial contamination of the air in poultry farms (Diadychkyna, 2011;Buckmaster, 2012;Addie et al, 2015). Disinfectants used in premises have a different focus and mechanism of action on microbial cells (Jiang et al, 2018;Maertens et al, 2018;Paliy et al, 2018;Zazharskyi et al, 2020). Currently, preparations of ammonium compounds and colloidal silver are widely used for disinfection (Park et al, 2009;Ding et al, 2019;Diaz et al, 2019).…”
