Based on the data of Chinese manufacturing listed companies in the process of intelligent upgrade, this article quantitatively analyzes the relationship between environmental regulations, green innovation, environmental dynamism and intelligent upgrading. This article quantitatively studies the role of environmental regulations in promoting intelligent upgrading. It proves the mediating role of green innovation between environmental regulations and intelligent transformation and upgrading. The mediating role of environmental dynamics between green innovation and intelligent upgrading is discussed. The article strives to provide theoretical guidance and practical inspiration for the intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises. The possible marginal contributions of this paper are as follows: Firstly, the impact mechanism of environmental regulations on the intelligent upgrade of manufacturing enterprises is clarified. By constructing a mechanism model of environmental regulations on the intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises, the direct and indirect effects of environmental regulations on the intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises are analyzed. Secondly, it reveals the important role of green innovation in environmental regulations and intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises. By analyzing the relationship between green innovation and the intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises, green innovation and environmental regulations, it verifies the intermediary role of green innovation in environmental regulations and intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises. Thirdly, clarify the regulatory role of environmental dynamism between green innovation and the intelligent upgrading of manufacturing enterprises. This article analyzes the relationship between environmental dynamism and green innovation and the intelligent upgrade of manufacturing companies, and empirically examines the regulatory role of environmental dynamism between green innovation and the intelligent upgrade of manufacturing companies. The rest of this article is organized as follows. "Literature review" section summarizes and reviews relevant important literature. "Research hypotheses" presents research hypotheses among environmental regulations, green innovation, environmental dynamism, and intelligent upgrades. "Materials and method" section presents the research design and method of this paper. "Empirical results and discussion" section verifies the research hypothesis, gives the research results, and discusses the results. "Conclusion and implications" section draws conclusions and theoretical implications.

Rapid urbanization has affected the eco-environment in China. A clear understanding of the coupling relationship between urbanization quality and eco-environment pressure is needed for sustainable urban development. This study focused on the relationship between urbanization quality and eco-environment pressure in the West Taiwan Strait Urban Agglomeration (WTSUA) with panel data collected from 2003 to 2017. An index system was established to measure urbanization quality from four urbanization subsystems: demographic urbanization, spatial urbanization, economic urbanization, and social urbanization. An index of eco-environment pressure was developed from resource availability, energy consumption, pollution emissions, and pressure response. The level of urbanization quality and eco-environment pressure was assessed using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and entropy method (EM). The coupling process was described using a coupling coordination degree model. Results showed the following: (1) Economic urbanization contributed the most to urbanization quality. The contribution of the four subsystems to eco-environment pressure was similar. (2) Eco-environment pressure decreased with improving urbanization quality. The coupling coordination degree between urbanization quality and eco-environment pressure increased. Spatially, the coupling coordination degree of eastern cities was higher than that of western cities. The findings of this paper will help government in planning and implementing sustainable urban development and eco-environment conservation.

Impact of Technology Innovation on Air Quality—An Empirical Study on New Energy Vehicles in China

China’s high economic growth has been accompanied by deteriorating air quality in recent decades. This paper aims to explore the relation between technology innovation (defined as the invention patent counts of each region) of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China and air quality. A panel fixed effect model is used to analyze this relation and the mediating effect methods are used to examine the role of the output of NEVs (defined as the annual production quantity of NEVs in each region (unit: thousand)). The results of our study show: (1) the impact of the technology innovation of NEVs on air quality is positive and statistically significant; (2) the mediating role of the output of NEVs is confirmed in the relation between NEVs innovation and air quality improvement; (3) the technology innovation of NEVs has a more notable impact on the air quality in the regions with higher vehicle and vessel tax (VVT). The present study implicates for the first time that the technology innovation of NEVs can enhance air quality with the mediating role of the output of NEVs and the moderating role of VVT.
