Analysis of Coupling Coordination Variance between Urbanization Quality and Eco-Environment Pressure: A Case Study of the West Taiwan Strait Urban Agglomeration, China

Abstract: Rapid urbanization has affected the eco-environment in China. A clear understanding of the coupling relationship between urbanization quality and eco-environment pressure is needed for sustainable urban development. This study focused on the relationship between urbanization quality and eco-environment pressure in the West Taiwan Strait Urban Agglomeration (WTSUA) with panel data collected from 2003 to 2017. An index system was established to measure urbanization quality from four urbanization subsystems: demo… Show more

“…The third type includes the coupling coordinated degree model (CCD) [10,11]. For example, Lin et al evaluated the coupling coordination changes between the urbanization quality and eco-environment pressure of the West Taiwan Strait urban agglomeration [12]. Li et al assessed the coordinated development between social economy and ecological environment in northeastern China [13].…”

“…erefore, the promotion of new industrialization is of great significance to the sustainable development of cities. With the implementation of the 13th Five-Year Plan policies, the country has begun to focus on adjusting the economic structure, increasing environmental protection, and reducing pollutant emissions [25]. From the above results, since 2016, the economic development in the central cities of the Yellow River Basin has begun to slow down.…”

“…These figures put an annual cost of well over one billion dollars on air and water pollution in Jakarta, Indonesia, with $2 billion for Bangkok, Thailand. Inevitably, Asia has been increasingly urbanized at a significant environmental expense, and this has been hit disproportionately by young people, the most marginalized urban population group, and the deteriorating climate sustainability [14]. With that, global development has also increased living conditions in Asia's urban areas and pulled millions out of misery.…”
