Analysis of the electricity production potential in the case of retrofit of steam turbines in a district heating company

Abstract: Today, in Serbia there are several sites with installed combined heat and power facilities. The most of these plants, for various reasons, do not produce electricity. One such plant is "Energetika" (Kragujevac, Serbia), which is primarily a district heating company. Steam generator in the plant has been installed in the 1970's and has worked in one short period of time. Installed steam turbines are 8 MW and 20 MW rated power. "Energetika" in accordance with the general trend of increasing energy efficiency of … Show more

“…The branch "Energetika" is one of the 7 subsidiaries of the Joint Stock Company Power Plants of North Macedonia (AD ESM) and holds licenses for production, distribution, and supply of heat (hot water and process steam) and electricity. A similar case regarding several technical aspects of a combined heat and power facility is presented in the work [17].…”

“…Arrows labelled with + represent inputs to a component of the system; arrows labelled with -represent withdrawals from a component Electricity market prices have increased rapidly in recent years, which makes important to produce and sell additional electricity because this is an important factor in determining a heating plant's profitability [24]. Recently, Finland has decided to support the sales price of electricity from CHP plants so that the market price will remain constant, thereby encouraging the production of electricity and its input into a district's electrical network.…”

“…There are number of researchers who carried out similar numerical research: Bachschrid [5], Goldman [6], Watanabe [7], Takahashi [8], Thikhimporn [9], Bialik [11], Krok [15], Ota [16], Babic [17], and Manea [18]. The above mentioned numerical studies were performed according to their own mathematical models and with its own software programs.…”
