With the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, countries have had to review their education policies and make adjustments accordingly. In this regard, distance education has been adopted in universities in Turkiye, and each university has created its own distance education strategy. Distance education, once only a complementary to education, replaced traditional education when the pandemic turned out to be unlikely to end in the short run. Although some universities are experienced in distance education, this sudden pandemic has caused disruptions (digital inequality, technological infrastructure problems, etc.) and unprecedented situations catching most universities off-guard. One of these is the emergence or the change of alienation seen in academic staff due to distance education. The aim of the study is to identify the work alienation of academics during the Covid-19 pandemic and reveal the underlying reasons, with the help of semi-structured interview technique within the framework of the phenomenological approach, one of the qualitative research methods. For this purpose, interviews through the Google Meet application were held with 12 academics. Content analysis was applied to the data obtained from these interviews. As a result, it was found that the interviewed academics were adversely affected by the distance education method and they were not competent enough to use it. It was also revealed that they were unable to identify their demands regarding their economical and technical needs yet at the same time they were not satisfied with the support provided by their institutions.

The effect of teacher candidates on burnout levels during the pandemic process

With the global pandemic, the education model has changed and education has moved to online environments around the world. It is the role of the teacher that does not change in this change in education. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the effect of future teacher candidates, who are students in the pandemic period, on the burnout levels. The research was carried out with the case study technique, which is one of the qualitative research methods. 32 teacher candidates participated in the research. Research data were collected through a semi-structured interview form and analyzed with content analysis technique. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the participants felt exhausted and tired due to the limitations experienced in the pandemic process, and this caused some difficulties in education. While prospective teachers had a positive view of the use of technology regarding the future of their profession, it was determined that the lack of practical courses in particular caused anxiety.

Araştırmanın amacı, üniversitelerde görevli akademik ve idari personelin, pandemi sürecinde işe yabancılaşmaya ilişkin algılarını saptamaktır. Araştırmada karma araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi, bir kamu üniversitesi fakültesinde görev yapmakta olan 116 personeldir. Araştırmanın verileri anket veri toplama tekniği kapsamında toplanmış veriler t testi ve tek yönlü ANOVA istatistiksel teknikleri ile analiz edilirken katılımcıların önerilerine ilişkin veriler, nitel içerik analizi yöntemi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçları pandemi sürecinde çalışanların işe yabancılaşma algılarının “az düzeyinde” olduğunu göstermektedir. Çalışanların işe yabancılaşma algıları, cinsiyet, eğitim düzeyi ve kıdem değişkenlerine göre anlamlı farklılık göstermemektedir. Katılımcılar, pandemi sürecinde çalışanların işe yabancılaşmalarını önlemek için yönetim tarafından iletişim ve motivasyon artırıcı iş ve iş dışı çevrim içi toplantı ve etkinlikler düzenlenmesini; bireysel düzeyde işten kopmayı önlemek için görev ve sorumlulukları yerine getirmeye devam etmeyi; sistem düzeyinde ise tamamen evden çalışma yerine iş yerinde dönüşümlü ve esnek çalışmaya devam edilmesi ile güvenli şartların oluşturularak yeniden işe dönülmesinin sağlanmasını önermektedir.
