Agronomic efficiency of potassium fertilization in lettuce fertilized with alternative nutrient sources

Abstract: -The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of alternative sources of nutrients on the nutrition, yield and efficiency of potassium fertilization in lettuce. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, using 3.7 kg pots filled with a dystrophic red-yellow Latosol of medium texture. The experimental design was randomized, with treatments divided into a 4 x 6 factorial: four doses of potassium (0; 200; 400; 600 kg ha -1 K 2 O) and six alternative sources of nutrients (breccia, ultramafic, biotite schis… Show more

“…As for complementary base fertilization (CBF) with MBR, yield improvement was expected through the application of this nutritional supplement due to diverse nutrient composition of the matrix used. Guelfi-Silva et al (2013), while assessing the effect of alternative nutrient source application in potassium fertilization nutrition, yield and efficiency on lettuce, found that increasing alternative nutrient source doses application promoted nutritional improvements and lettuce yield increase. However, this effect was not verified in isolation, and differences were only observed in interactions with the cultivar factor.…”

“…Bertossi et al (2013) report increasing values for phosphorous usage efficiency with increasing dosages of P, varying from 2.98 to 17.11 mg dry matter per g P applied, for dosages in the range of 0 to 500 mg P kg -1 . However, most research into N, P and K for various crops (FAGERIA;SANTOS;MORAES, 2010;SILVA et al, 2011;GUELFI-SILVA et al, 2013) show that there is a reduction in P usage with increases in the applied dosage, due to greater losses in the soil-plant-atmosphere system.…”

“…According to Guelfi-Silva et al (2013), there is still the possibility of using residues from other productive sectors, such as the silicate powder rocks originated from mining subproducts. Although there is no global estimative of the subproducts quantity generated by the mining industry, in 2014, only the European Union produced 2503 million tons of mining wastes (Euro Stat 2017).…”
