Advanced Materials with Special Wettability toward Intelligent Oily Wastewater Remediation

Abstract: Clean water resources are essential to our human society. Oil leakage has caused water contamination, which leads to serious shortage of clean water, environmental deterioration, and even increasing number of deaths. It is of great urgency to solve the oil-polluted water problems worldwide. Efficient oil/water separation, especially emulsified oil/water mixture separation, is widely used to mitigate water pollution issues. Recently, advanced materials with special wettability have been employed for oily wastew… Show more

“…Oil/Water Separation. Frequent oil leakage accidents and discharge of oily industrial wastewater cause substantial economic losses and seriously pollute the natural ecological environment [40][41][42][43]160]. Yong et al proposed a method for separating oil-water mixtures via the femtosecond laser-structured superhydrophobic porous PTFE sheet (Figure 14(d)) [103].…”

“…Though nanostructured strategy could solve the solid-state diffusion issue in thick electrodes, the deteriorated wettability of the electrode with the electrolyte, the increased ion transfer distance, and the limited charge transport kinetics induce the considerable polarization and inferior rate performance, especially at high charging/discharging current densities. [36,37] Thus, a high Li-ion diffusivity in the electrolyte is also necessary. The effective ionic diffusion coefficient D eff in electrolytes can be defined as [38] eff…”

“…6,7 The frequently used term 'special wettability' describes materials with extreme wetting properties featuring liquid contact angles above 150 at the liquid/air/solid interface or smaller than 10 at the water/oil/ solid interface. 8 Such materials featuring special wettability have shown remarkable performance for separating oils from Andreas Schneemann grew up in Sprockhövel, a small town in the Ruhr valley on the west side of Germany. In 2016 he obtained his PhD in inorganic chemistry from Ruhr-University Bochum under the guidance of Roland A. Fischer working on exible metal-organic frameworks.…”
