A simple method for calculating the productivity of polyphenol separations by polymer-based chromatography

Abstract: A simple method for calculating the productivity of chromatography processes was proposed based on the iso-resolution curve concept. The model separation system was polyphenol separations by polystyrene divinylbenzene resins with the ethanol-water mixture mobile phase. The distribution coefficient K was determined as a function of ethanol concentration I by linear gradient elution experiments. The HETP-mobile phase velocity u curves were determined as a function of I. Using K and HETP, the iso-resolution curve… Show more

“…The data of two polyphenols, catechin and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) by polymer-resin chromatography were obtained by the method described in our previous studies [7][8][9]. The resin used was Diaion HP20SS from Mitsubishi Chemical (Tokyo, Japan), which is used for reversed phase chromatography [i].…”

“…In this paper, the effect of temperature on the separation performance by polymer-resin chromatography was investigated. Polyphenol separation by isocratic elution with ethanol-water mobile phases was chosen as a model system [7][8][9]. HETP (height equivalent to a theoretical plate) values within the temperature range 15-45℃ were examined based on the dimensionless variables containing particle diameter, mobile phase velocity and molecular dif fusion coef ficient.…”

“…Polyphenol separation by isocratic elution with ethanolwater mobile phases was chosen as a model system Figure 1. How to improve the separation (Hosono et al, 2012;Yoshimoto et al, 2017). This separation system can be considered as reverse phase chromatography (RPC).…”

“…There are various parameters affecting the performance of this RPC separation, some of which such as the flow velocity u and the ethanol concentration in the mobile phase I were well characterized (Hosono et al, 2012;Yoshimoto et al, 2017).…”
