A Review of Reconfigurable Leaky-Wave Antennas

Abstract: A comprehensive survey of the reconfigurable leaky-wave antennas (LWAs) is made in this paper. Beam-steering and unique radiating features of LWA are highlighted particularly. Therefore, radiation mechanism of different types of LWA, including uniform, quasi-uniform, periodic, and metamaterial LWAs are discussed in detail. The guiding structures for realizing LWAs, namely microstrip, waveguide, substrate integrated waveguide (SIW), and half-mode SIW (HMSIW) are investigated as well. Basic concepts of electroni… Show more

“…The beam is scanned from − 11 to 9° with peak gain of 20.4 ± 2.6 dBi at 10.1 GHz. For P = 8, the studied codes are (6, 2), (5,3), (4,4), (3,5) and (2,6) show scanning beams from 8 to 23°. For P = 9, the studied codes are (6,3), and (5,4).…”

“…Leaky wave antennas (LWAs) have also been explored for beam-steering at millimeter-waves for applications in 5G [21]. Several forms of LWAs have been discussed in the literature, most common being substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) slot array antennas [22]- [28].…”

“…This is especially important in the mmW regime, in which various DIL-LWAs have been proposed, and different techniques to circumvent common problems such as an open-stopband have been investigated in the past years [18]- [22]. Reconfigurable LWAs can be realized with various technologies, including LC [23]- [28]. However, many LC-LWAs are investigated solely in an analytical or simulative manner.…”
