“…The domestic literature was scanned with “Kindliness” and “Compassion” keywords through TOAD Scales and Google Scholar and 8 Scales were found with these keywords 16–23 . It was determined that some of these scales were not related to “Compassion Competence” or were not suitable for nurses and nursing students 18–20,22 . It was determined that the “Scale of Compassion for the Life of Others,” adapted by Coskun et al, 23 consisted of two subdimensions: “Empathy” and “Relieving pain/suffering.” The “Compassion Scale,” adapted by Akdeniz and Deniz, 16 was determined to consist of six dimensions: “Caring,” “Indiffation,” “Awareness of Shares,” “Disconnection,” “Conscious Awareness,” and “Relationship Break.” It was determined that the “Kindliness‐Compassion Scale,” which was examined by Sarıçam and Erdemir 21 for its psychometric characteristics, consisted of three subdimensions: “Compassion,” “Me‐centrism,” and “Kindliness.” It was determined that the “Compassion Fatigue‐Short Scale” adapted by Dinç and Ekinci 17 was composed of two subdimensions: “Secondary Trauma” and “Occupational Burnout.” The subdimensions of the scale adapted in this research are “Communication,” “Susceptibility” and “Insight.” There was no similarity between the subdimensions of the scales mentioned above and the subdimensions of the scale subject to the research.…”

Purpose In this study, we examined the validity and reliability of the Compassion Competence Scale (CCS) by adapting it to Turkish. Desing and Methods The data of the methodological research were obtained from 180 nursing students in the 3rd and 4th grades of the nursing department of a public university. Findings CCS Cronbach alpha coefficient was determined as 0.795; 0.758 for the “Communication” subdimension and 0.639 for the “Sensitivity” subdimension and 0.658 for the “Insight” subdimension. Practice Implications As a result of this research, it was identified that the CCS is a valid and reliable evaluation tool in assessing compassion competence in nursing students.

Bu çalışmanın amacı lise öğrencilerinin merhamet düzeylerinin sosyo-demografik değişkenlere göre incelenmesidir. Tarama modelinin kullanıldığı bu çalışmanın örneklemini 460 lise öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Çalışmanın verileri, Nas ve Sak (2021) tarafından geliştirilen Merhamet Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır ve veri analizinde bağımsız örneklemler için t-testi ve tek faktörlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) kullanılmıştır. Yapılan analizler sonucunda, lise öğrencilerinde merhamet ölçeği alt boyutları ile ölçeğin toplam puan ortalamaları arasında yaş, kardeş sayısı, devam edilen sınıf düzeyi, anne eğitim durumu, anne çalışma durumu, baba çalışma durumu, kaçıncı çocuk olunduğu ve devam edilen lise türü bakımından anlamlı bir farklılık gözlenmemiştir. Katılımcıların cinsiyet ve başarı belgesi alma durumlarına göre başkalarına merhamet ve diğer canlılara merhamet alt boyutları ve toplam puan ortalamaları arasında anlamlı farklılık bulunmuştur. Baba eğitim durumuna göre başkalarına merhamet alt boyutunda ve ölçeğin toplam puan ortalamaları arasındaki farkın anlamlı olduğu bulunmuştur. Ayrıca, ailenin aylık gelirine göre kendine merhamet alt boyutunda anlamlı bir farklılık bulunduğu saptanmıştır. Sonuç olarak, alanyazındaki merhamet çalışmalarının genel olarak yetişkinlere yönelik yapıldığı, bu araştırmada ise lise öğrencilerinin yer aldığı dikkate alındığında, araştırmanın alanyazına özgün bir katkı sağladığı belirtilebilir.

Compassion fatigue among obstetricians and gynecologists

Obstetricians and gynecologists are likely to be at risk of occupational distress because their quality of life is affected as a result of their experiences of assisting with traumatic births and/or providing abortions, among others. Nevertheless, there have been few studies of this group of doctors’ compassion fatigue. This study aimed to examine obstetricians and gynecologists’ compassion fatigue. This survey-based quantitative study examined 107 obstetricians and gynecologists’ compassion fatigue. Data were collected using a demographic information form and the Compassion Fatigue Short Scale. This established that had low levels of compassion fatigue related to secondary trauma and job burnout, but moderate levels of it overall. Among female obstetricians and gynecologists, compassion fatigue was higher than among their male counterparts, and respondents who worked at private hospitals had higher compassion fatigue related to secondary trauma than those who worked in state-run hospitals. The data also revealed that obstetricians and gynecologists with 11–15 years’ seniority scored higher on the job-burnout subdimension of compassion fatigue, and overall, than their more senior counterparts. Interestingly, however, no statistically significant differences in the participants’ compassion fatigue were found to be associated with their ages, marital statuses, numbers of children, number of patients seen per day, or number of daily operations performed. Professional sharing groups that allow doctors to share their experiences and to gain awareness about their colleagues’ traumas should be organized. Teamwork should also be encouraged; and various prevention strategies should also be considered.
