“…Although the history of research in psychotherapy dates back to the 1920s, when various institutes of psychoanalysis were responsible for the evaluation of its results, it was Eysenck's (1952) erroneous conclusion about the disadvantage of psychotherapy in generating changes compared to other factors, such as the passing of time or placebo effects, that motivated researchers into proving him wrong. Subsequent meta-analyses culminated in supporting the conclusion that psychological treatments had the capacity to produce positive results in patients (Lutz et al, 2021;Muran et al, 2010;Wallerstein, 2001). With a significant body of evidence in favour of this thesis, generated basically from efficacy studies, over time the prescription of a psychotherapeutic treatment took a Copernican turn and went from relying primarily on clinical judgment to taking into account the best available evidence.…”
