This study aims to construct definitive sites curves for native bracatinga stands (Mimosa scabrella Benth) in the metropolitan region of Curitiba. Data used was extracted from 648 pairs of values of dominant height and age. Ten mathematical models were tested for guide curve fitting. Selection of the best performing model was based on adjusted coefficient of determination (R aj 2 ), standard error of estimate in percentage (S yx %) and graphic analysis of residuals. Models were tested and the Chapman-Richards model was selected for construction of limit curves of site classes due to the biological significance of its coefficients, statistical performance and good distribution of residuals. Curve anamorphism and model validity were verified using the test proposed by Kirby (1975). Curve stability was demonstrated based on stem analysis data composing part of the database. Site classification for bracatinga stands was thus considered suitable and can potentially be applied to development of growth and yield equations for this particular species.

SISTEMA DE CRESCIMENTO E PRODUÇÃO PARA POVOAMENTOS DE A SYSTEM FOR Pinus taeda GROWTH AND YIELD IN THE NORTH OF SANTA CATARINAAbSTRACT: The objective of this study was to test different models for fitting site index curves and evaluat the Clutter model for predicting Pinus taeda growth and yield in the northern State of Santa Catarina. The dominant height data were obtained from 216 plots measured in 2009, with an area of 400 m². To fit the Clutter model we used data from permanent plots, conducted between 2004 and 2008 in areas aged between 5 and 34 years. The coefficient of determination (R² adj ), standard error of estimate (S yx ), standard error of estimate in percentage (S yx %) and residual percentage distribution were the statistics used to select the best model. The Silva-Bailey model was the most appropriated to represent site index curves, while the Clutter model performed well for estimating the growth and yield (m³ . ha -1 ), from a statistical and biological point of view.

RESUMOUma mesma espécie florestal pode, em distintas condições ambientais, apresentar variações na forma de seu crescimento e em consequência na sua produção final. A altura dominante (h 100 ) é uma das variáveis mais importantes para a prognose da produção florestal, visto que praticamente todas as demais relações funcionais de produção se baseiam na descrição do crescimento desta variável através das funções de índice de sítio. Este trabalho objetivou detectar as possíveis diferenças no crescimento em altura dominante (h 100 ) entre dois clones de uma mesma espécie (Eucalyptus saligna Smith) e entre diferentes classes de aptidão de solos, sobre os quais estão implantados estes materiais genéticos. Uma rede de parcelas permanentes com remedições anuais ou bianuais foi utilizada para ajustar diferentes modelos de altura dominante em função da idade. A partir da seleção do melhor modelo e do uso de análise de covariância, buscou-se definir a existência de diferentes tendências de crescimento em altura dominante. As análises de tendências de crescimento através da utilização da função de Backman demonstraram diferenças significativas entre os dois materiais genéticos e entre diferentes classes de aptidão de solos para o clone 2864. O clone 4039 não demonstrou tendências de crescimento suficientemente significativas que justificassem a separação em dois grupos de classes de solo. Como resultado final, tem-se que três grupos de crescimento deveriam ser formados para descrever o crescimento em altura dominante: Grupo I -Clone 2864 e classes de solo 1 e 2; Grupo II -Clone 2864 e classes de solo 3, 4 e 5 e Grupo III -Clone 4039 em todas as classes de solo.
