“…The GBD 2015 allowed the data, hitherto submitted by countries, to be broken down by federal units -in Brazil, by states. Data analysis generated indicators of mortality and years of life lost (YLL) which, summed to the information on morbidity and the number of years lived with disability (YLDs) provided the measure of the global burden of disease: the disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), whose definition is described in a methodological article 18 . The GBD 2015 created the socioeconomic development index (SDI) for all evaluated places, by calculating per capita income, formal education at 15 years of age and fertility rate.…”

“…This study describes the metrics generated by GBD 2015 on dengue, for Brazil and their federated units, in 2000 and 2015. For Brazil, the main source of information on deaths is based on the Ministry of Health's Mortality Information System (Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade -SIM), adjusted by other national and international sources.…”

“…YLD expresses the sum of prevalence of each one of the sequelae related to dengue, multiplied by weighting of disability or incapacity. DALY is calculated with the sum of YLL and YLD 17,18,20 . One out of two acute health conditions were attributed for each dengue case: 94.5% of cases were considered as disability for "infectious diseases, moderate acute episode," with mean duration of 6 days; and 5.5% was considered a disability for "infectious disease, severe acute Rev BRas epidemiol maio 2017; 20 sUppl 1: 205-216 episode", with mean duration of 14 days.…”
