Growth and photosynthetic parameters of saccharine sorghum plants subjected to salinity

Abstract: Plants are often exposed to abiotic stresses such as salinity, which represents a barrier to the cultivation of agricultural species mainly in arid and semi-arid regions. This study evaluated the development of four saccharine sorghum genotypes for tolerance to different salinity levels under greenhouse conditions. The experimental design was a randomized complete block arranged in a 5 × 4 factorial scheme, which corresponded to five levels of irrigation water salinity [electrical conductivities of 0.5 (contro… Show more

“…Salinity also negative impact on chlorophyll contents of wheat and this effect was more pronounced at high salinity concentration. It has already been described by various researchers that salinity causes a decline a chlorophyll contents that ultimately affect the photosynthesis rate of the plant ( Aquino et al, 2007 ; Silva et al, 2019 ). However, in present study, it has been observed that under salinity stress, the application of multi-strain bacterial consortium was found to be an effective strategy to improve the photosynthetic pigments that ultimately improve the photosynthesis rate of the plant.…”

“…The profile of the leaves of a control plant (wild specimen or untreated specimen) must be carefully observed in relation to the treated specimens. To provide a quantitative parameter, it is possible to count the leaves with symptoms in relation to the asymptomatic leaves [151].…”
