Development of a second type electrode based on the silver/silver ibuprofenate pair for ibuprofen quantification in pharmaceutical samples

Abstract: Ibuprofen is a widely used pharmaceutical because of its therapeutic properties; it is considered a safe medicament, thus it does not require medical prescription to be sold. However, in order to ensure consumer's health it is indispensable that the pharmaceutical industry relies on analytic methods for its quantification. Potentiometry has proven to be a successful technique using second type electrodes, which in agreement with Nernst's equation can detect anions activity. On consideration of this, this resea… Show more

“…By comparing the performance characteristics of the Clay−CPE with other electrodes (Table ), it is clear that our modified electrode is far better regarding the ibuprofen determination with precision. The limit of detection and sensitivity are comparable to those of others electrodes . The reproducibility of clay‐CPE was also investigated in 1.0 × 10 −5 mol L −1 of ibuprofen and the relative standard deviation (RSD) was 2.31% for eight successive measurements.…”

“…Santini et al, proposed a simple second type electrode for ibuprofen analysis, based on the Hg/HgIbu pair with very good results [29]. Another paper has presented the development of a new second-type electrode proposal, based on the pair silver/silver ibuprofenate, (Ag/AgIbu), which in agreement with the Nernst equation, allows the quantification of ibuprofenate ions [30]. Potentiometric methods based on ion-selective electrodes [31] proposed by various scientists, require strict pH control for accurate and precise results.…”
