Show more

“…Then, we evaluated the muscle glycogen reserves, and it was possible to see that the control group had a pattern of glycogen reserves that was similar to that mentioned in recent publications of the literature [25][26][27] . With respect to the group treated with nandrolone, as one may see in Figure 1, with the treatment, there changes only in the glycogen reserves of the ventricular chamber, with a reserve that was 127% greater than the control group's reserve.…”

“…The results reached with the histomorphometric analysis show and increase in the occupied space by the endomysium and perymisium from the animals from the experimental group from 21 and 45 days. Chingui et al (47) in their studies conclude that the biggest homeostatic compromising occurs in the initial phase of disuse. In this context, it is important to enhance that the determination of the results of studies on immobilization present a multifactorial factor differing regarding the model and used material to promote disuse, the period of immobilization, the articular position and the type of muscle fibers analyzed (27,28,30,36) .…”

“…Thus, the anabolic effects of this hormone are reinforced by its anti-catabolic actions. However, insulin inhibits proteolysis, suppresses the release and inhibits oxidation of essential amino acids 20 . Given these characteristics, it is believed that animals from IOG and IMG groups suffered more severe damage to the muscle tissue because in addition to being affected by immobilization condition, usually when in obesity and protein malnutrition conditions, animals present disturbances in the mechanisms of supply and use of the insulin hormone, which enhances the muscle catabolic state.…”

“…Thus, muscle affected by these conditions may trigger an insulin resistance atrophy process 20 . Corroborating the findings of this research on protein malnutrition, experimental studies have shown that the offspring of rats exposed to this procedure showed a decrease in the area and diameter of the gastrocnemius and tibialis anterior muscle fibers 21 .…”
