A new species of Hypostomus is described from the rio Quente, rio Paranaíba drainage, in the upper rio Paraná basin in central Brazil. The rio Quente is a peculiar small and shallow fast water stream with water temperatures around 34ºC. The new species is distinguished from all congeners by having the five lateral series of plates with hypertrophied odontodes not aligned in rows and more conspicuous on flanks of caudal peduncle of the larger specimens. The new species is only known from the rio Quente.Uma nova espécie de Hypostomus é descrita do rio Quente, drenagem do rio Paranaíba, bacia do alto rio Paraná no Brasil Central. O rio Quente é um riacho peculiar, raso e de correnteza, cujas temperaturas atingem em torno de 34ºC. A espécie nova é distinguida de todas as congêneres por ter as cinco séries de placas laterais com odontódeos hipertrofiados, os quais não são alinhados em fileiras, sendo mais conspícuos nos flancos do pedúnculo caudal nos indivíduos maiores. A espécie nova é conhecida apenas do rio Quente.

A new species of Hypostomus, H. dardanelos, is described from the rio Aripuanã basin, a southern tributary to the rio Madeira, in northern Mato Grosso State, Brazil. The new species is assigned to the Hypostomus cochliodon group by the possession of few teeth, spoon-shaped teeth, angle between dentaries usually less than 80°, and by the absence of a notch between hyomandibular and the metapterygoid. The new species can be diagnosed from its congeners by its unique color pattern of yellowish-brown ground color covered by well-defined dark spots of relatively equal size, evenly spaced and moderately set along the dorsal region of the body and fins, except on the ventrolateral region of the caudal peduncle and proximal region of anal and caudal fins, which are devoid of spots. The new species is further diagnosed by having teeth with very small lateral cusp, fused to the mesial one and almost imperceptible; by the absence of medial buccal papillae, and by nuptial odontodes all along the body (odontodes more pronounced in some few larger specimens).Uma espécie nova de Hypostomus, H. dardanelos, é descrita da bacia do rio Aripuanã, um tributário ao sul do rio Madeira, no norte do estado do Mato Grosso, Brasil. A espécie nova é atribuída ao grupo Hypostomus cochliodon por apresentar poucos dentes, dentes em forma de colher, ângulo entre os dentários usualmente menor que 80° e pela ausência de uma chanfradura entre o hiomandibular e o metapterigoide. A espécie nova pode ser diagnosticada de suas congêneres por seu padrão de cor único marrom-amarelado com pintas escuras bem definidas de tamanho homogêneo, moderadamente distanciadas e igualmente distribuídas ao longo da região dorsal do corpo e nadadeiras, exceto na região ventrolateral do pedúnculo caudal e na região proximal da nadadeira caudal, que são desprovidas de pintas. A espécie nova é adicionalmente diagnosticada por possuir dentes com a cúspide lateral muito reduzida, fundida à cúspide mesial e quase imperceptível; pela ausência da papila bucal medial e por odontódeos nupciais presentes em todo o corpo (odontódeos mais evidentes em alguns poucos exemplares maiores).

A new small Loricariidae, Hypostomus careopinnatus, is described from the Rio Taquari drainage, upper Rio Paraguay basin, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The new species can be easily distinguished from all congeners, except Hypostomus levis, by the absence of adipose fin. Hypostomus careopinnatus is distinguished from H. levis mainly by the presence of slender bifid teeth, with mesial cusp large and rounded, and lateral cusp small and pointed (vs. spoon-shaped teeth). The new species described herein completely lacks the adipose fin and also lacks the median pre-adipose plates in almost all specimens examined. The absence of adipose fin is probably an independent acquisition for Hypostomus careopinnatus and Hypostomus levis.Um pequeno novo Loricariidae, Hypostomus careopinnatus, é descrito das drenagens do Rio Taquari, bacia do alto Rio Paraguai, Mato Grosso, Brasil. A nova espé cie distingue-se facilmente de todas as demais congêneres, exceto de Hypostomus levis, pela ausência da nadadeira adiposa. Hypostomus careopinnatus distingue-se de H. levis pela presença de dentes delgados e bicuspidados, com a cú spide mesial maior e arredondada, e a cú spide lateral menor e afilada (vs. dentes em forma de colher). A nova espé cie aqui descrita não possui nadadeira adiposa, e també m perdeu as placas medianas pré -adiposa, na maioria dos exemplares examinados. A ausência da nadadeira adiposa é provavelmente uma aquisição independente para Hypostomus careopinnatus e Hypostomus levis.
