Geologia e geomorfologia da estação ecológica Serra Geral do Tocantins

Abstract: This work presents a basic description of Serra Geral do Tocantins Ecological Station, located in the eastern part of Tocantins State and western part of Bahia State, Central Brazil. Two main factors of physical environment are treated: geology, composed by sedimentary litotypes, and the relief forms, due to predominance of mesetas and inselbergs in the region, famous for Jalapão Dunes in the north. This interaction, sculpted under typical savanna climate, has turned out into a mosaic series with immense lands… Show more

“…Costa, 2010). The hydrogeographic divide between the São Francisco and Tocantins basins is the Serra Geral de Goiás, a Cretaceous sedimentary plateau overlying the Precambrian São Francisco craton (Villela & Nogueira, 2011;Bartorelli, 2013). Therefore, the hypothesis that the same ancestral species were once widely distributed across both basins before the formation of the Serra Geral de Goiás is rejected.…”

“…The high genetic distance between these groups and the dispersal analysis indicated no gene flow between these populations. The Serra Geral de Goiás, dating back to the Cretaceous [ 67 ], and therefore before the diversification of S . hirtipupa , is the geographic divide between the São Francisco and the Tocantins basins.…”

“…). In that region, the tributaries of the Rio São Francisco basin are on a mostly uneroded versant of a plateau, which is formed mainly by Cretaceous sandstones, whereas the tributaries of the Rio Tocantins basin drain an eroded versant of the same plateau, that is slightly lower than its counterpart (Villela & Nogueira, ). In the area, the headwaters of the Rio Sapão (tributary of Rio São Francisco) and the Rio Galheiros (tributary of the Rio Tocantins) are connected, allowing limited faunistic interchange (Lima & Caires, ).…”
