Multi-criteria analysis of the influence of rearing, equipment, and catching management practices on the Incidence of back scratches in broilers

Abstract: Carcass quality is one of the main parameters to evaluate broiler welfare, and the presence of back scratches indicates that the birds were submitted to stress. The objective of this study was to identify the best management practices during rearing and catching, taking into consideration broiler genetic differences (genetic lines A and B) and sexes. The survey was carried out in 351 broiler houses belonging to an integrated company and located in the region of Dourados, MS, Brazil. Between January and October… Show more

“…Freight carrier pays transporters; consequently, they try to reduce trip time to increase profitability. PILECCO et al (2012) suggested that an appropriate training is crucial to reducing carcass losses and death rates. MOTA-ROJAS et al (2006) found significant losses during the transportation process related to swine discomfort, high stocking density, group distribution, high temperatures and humidity, water sprays, trip distance, type of truck, noise, smells, travelling time, sunlight, wind speed, among others (DALLA COSTA et al, 2007;LUDTKE et al, 2009;EDWARDS et al, 2010;SILVEIRA, 2010, MOTO-ROJAS, 2013 …”

“…The multi-attribute/criterion analysis provides an appropriate evaluation for this particular scenario (Saaty, 1980;Almeida Paz et al, 2010;. Among the available multi-attribute approaches, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) allows combining different types of criteria in a multi-level decision-making structure to obtain a single score for each alternative with a specific characteristic (Pilecco et al, 2012;Nääs et al, 2015). The purpose of the process is to provide a vector of weights expressing the relative importance of the alternatives for each criterion.…”
