Show more

“…In this study, no difference was found in the CL of the carcasses of either studied species (Table 2), and despite the reduced amount of subcutaneous fat observed in the carcasses, the obtained values are within the mean range cited in the literature for goats 1.90 to 2.17%, (OLIVEIRA et al, 2008); 2.0 to 5.3%, (SOUSA et al, 2009) and sheep 3.0 to 3.5%, (LANDIM et al, 2007); 2.04 to 3.06%, (CARTAXO et al, 2011).…”

“…This information corroborates with the results of this study in which WLBC values varied from 2.59 to 3.23 %, evidencing that the similarity (P≥0.05) observed was a reflection of the similarity with EGS. Cartaxo et al (2011), when evaluating the effect of inclusion from 2.40 to 2.90 Mcal/kg in the diet of lambs, found lower WLBC when EGS was higher.…”

“…This can be attributed to the form of rating these two traits. While the degree of finishing is evaluated visually by the amount and distribution of fat throughout the carcass, the FT is measured in a specific location on the carcass, which in this case may be responsible for having an advantage over the visual assessment, since Santa Inês lambs have been associated to carcasses with lower fat (Cartaxo et al, 2011) unlike the Brazilian Somali breed (Fernandes Júnior, 2010).…”
