Introduction: Researches into populations with low solvent exposures, or exposures within tolerance levels allowed in the occupational field are still restricted. Purpose: To characterize the hearing profile of gas station attendants. Methods: Cross-sectional study, constituted of two groups, matched by gender and age: Control Group -23 subjects without exposure to noise or chemicals; Experimental Group -21 gas station attendants. An audiological evaluation was performed, composed by pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry and acoustic impedance tests. The statistical analysis used average calculation, standard deviation, minimum and maximum value; Chi-square Test and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The significance level was 5%. Results: Hearing loss was verified in gas station attendants characterized by impairment of the peripheral auditory system, suggesting toxic effects of exposure to fuels. There was a correlation between age and solvent exposure time. Comparing the groups, the acoustic reflex showed more alterations in the experimental group, with a difference for the ipsilateral acoustic reflexes of the right ear and contralateral ones of the left ear. Conclusion: There was no difference between the groups for the hearing thresholds; however, the difference observed in the ipsilateral and contralateral acoustic reflexes in the experimental group suggests retrocochlear impairment. Due to the evidence observed in this study, it is considered relevant to include the acoustic reflex research in the auditory evaluation of the gas station attendants, as well as the integration of this professional category into hearing loss prevention programs.

Purpose: to evaluate the understanding of noise and the perception about quality of life of gas station workers. Methods: this is an exploratory study with a sample of 32 employees, of both sexes from three gas stations of a country town in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Data were collected during the activities allusive to the International Noise Awareness Day, in April 2015, by a questionnaire on noise and hearing health and by the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-Bref).Results: most workers reported not having a hearing loss, discomfort or pain when subjected to noise. However, they believe that exposure to noise can lead to hearing loss as well as tinnitus and dizziness. The working environment was indicated as noisy, but the workers do not perceive noise producers and do not adopt preventive measures. Concerning the quality of life, the lowest score was for the environmental domain, in both sexes and age equal and less than 30 years. Conclusion: the study allowed to understand that the majority of workers does not have significant knowledge about the need for protective measures against noise; also showed that the environmental domain was the most compromised in the perception of employees on quality of life.

Resumo Introdução: trabalhadores de postos de revenda de combustíveis estão expostos a compostos orgânicos voláteis, dos quais se destaca o benzeno. O manejo clínico do amplo espectro de sinais e sintomas desses trabalhadores ainda é um desafio para assistência em saúde. Objetivo: apresentar proposta de classificação clínico-laboratorial baseada na análise de hemograma e na avaliação clínica dos trabalhadores, para orientar a conduta dos profissionais de saúde. Métodos: a classificação clínico-laboratorial foi definida a partir de critérios de hierarquização dos resultados das avaliações clínicas e de vigilância à saúde de modo a possibilitar a organização dos procedimentos e fluxos de atenção à saúde. Resultados: a proposta define o manejo clínico com base na classificação dos expostos ao benzeno em quatro níveis de alterações clínico-laboratoriais que determinam os procedimentos compatíveis com o grau da exposição e de seus efeitos à saúde: 1) sem alterações significativas; 2) alterações inespecíficas ou incompletas, 3) alterações clínicas e/ou laboratoriais; 4) alterações sugestivas de benzenismo. Conclusão: a proposta de classificação dos achados clínico-laboratoriais é potencialmente capaz de orientar a conduta médica na avaliação das condições de saúde e dos riscos da exposição ao benzeno e de subsidiar o monitoramento sistemático e contínuo necessário para a definição de rotinas assistenciais para os coletivos de trabalhadores.
