The objective of this research was to study the diversity and similarity profiles of vegetal species from adult and regenerating arboreal component in 'submontana' forest area, evaluating the modulation of the effective numbers of vegetal species on the different strata. An area of 4400 m 2 was sampled in a remaining rainforest (Open Ombrophylous Forest), in which woody species of adult stratum and regenerating were measured. All woody individuals were considered among the adult strata with CFG ≥ 10 cm in circumference (circumference of the trunk at 30 cm from the ground). Regenerating components were measured in the same plot (CFG < 10 cm), to justify richness and diversity comparisons in the same scale of the area. The numbers of effective Hill diversity (qD) to Shannon entropy, Simpson and species Richness was estimated by rarefaction (P = .05). The effective plant species numbers (qD) were estimated at 71.00; 37.48 and 25.31 species in relation to adult stratum, and 69.0; 25.36 and 16.87 species for the regenerant. No significant differences were found for richness of species among the strata. On the other hand, when plant species abundances were intensified as more important in the diversity measures, it was proved that the tree component began to maintain greater diversity, by Shannon and Simpson's entropy. The pattern of proportionality in species abundance changed systematically as the community directed its development to the adult stratum. The hypothesis on floristic similarity was confirmed, indicating reasonable perspectives on the regeneration power of these forests, front of the great scenario of moderate local disturbances.

Structure of 15 Hectares Permanent Plots of Terra Firme Dense Forest in Central Amazon

-Terra Firme dense forest occurs in 65% of the Amazonian region and is characterized by the high diversity of plant species and high occurrence of rare plant species. The objective of this work was to analyze the horizontal structure of 15 hectares of plots, randomly chosen from a set of 400 ha of permanent plots situated at the Experimental Site of Embrapa, Manaus, Amazonas State, Brazil. All individuals with DBH > 10 cm were identified at the level of species in 2005. The VI values (Values of importance) were separated in classes of range with one (01) standard deviation and the individuals distributed according to DBH classes of 10 cm in amplitude. In total, 8771 individuals were identified, distributed into 264 species and 53 families. A larger number of individuals is concentrated in a few number of species, such as Protium hebetatum D.C. Daly, Eschweilera coriacea (DC.) S.A. Mori and Licania oblongifolia Standl, which sum up 21% of the total number of individuals and 12% of the VI. There is a high occurrence of rare species (36%). The families Sapotaceae, Lecythidaceae and Burseraceae together accounted for 39% of the total number of individuals. The diametric structure in an inverse-J shape shows that 80% of the individuals are concentrated in the DBH classes ranging from 10 to 30 cm. The results highlight the high occurrence of rare species and those with low density, and with distribution restricted to some plots, particularly those belonging to the lowest classes of VI, which deserve special attention in actions for biodiversity conservation and forest management.

Structure and Diversity In Ombrophilous Forest in the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco

The objective of this work was to evaluate the arboreal component of a Dense Ombrophilous Lowland Forest fragment through evaluations of richness, structure and diversity. For the sampling of this component, we implanted 40 sample units of 10 × 25 m. We measured all arboreal individuals who presented circumference at breast height ≥ 15 cm, 1.30 m from the ground level. The tree stratum presented 1324 individuals, 100 species, 64 genera and 38 families. The Fabaceae family had the highest wealth and Anacardiaceae was the most abundant. The Shannon index and Pielou equability were 3.60 nats.ind.-1 and 0.78, respectively, suggesting the existence of relevant ecological dominance in the community. The results of this work emphasize the ecological importance of this remnant for maintaining the local flora and fauna, also emphasizing the importance of preserving Atlantic Ombrophilous Forests, particularly in the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco.
